It is the opposite of that for the defense. They lack elite players on defense but have depth in terms of having a lot of "good enough" players.
I am pleased with our overall level of talent acquisition under Garrett. It is consistently getting better, the cap is getting in better shape as time goes on, and the amount of problem children is also going down with a few notable exceptions, including Hardy.
We have fewer black holes of talent on this team than in years past. We have two starting defensive ends out due to suspensions and a linebacker who is probably going to be cut due to off the field issues, and I have confidence that we will somehow make due.
No one knows where the pass rush will come from or if it will be good enough. I think we will get enough pressure from the defensive interior to be more effective than we were last year. Whoever plays at end will be as effective or more so than a dinged up Gregory was last year.
I get the feeling that Wilcox' days may be numbered. I hate to see that he didn't put it together here, but he has had enough time to figure it all out. Whoever takes his spot will probably play better as well.
I agree we have a lot of no names on defense, but really almost everyone was a no name at some point. Some of these guys will make a name for themselves.
