I have seen several posters say that we lack overall team depth and that the roster is "top heavy" with a significant drop off in talent level after the starters. Personally, I take issue with that.

We currently seem to have very good depth at running back. Maybe the best in recent memory and arguably the current deepest in the NFL. About the only backfields that seem to compare in recent history was L. Tomlinson and his backup, whose name escapes me.

Offensive line is stacked with starting caliber Leary as an interior backup. We have good depth at tight end, although Hanna is currently injured. Our receiver depth looks ok.

We are pretty solid on depth at corner, and the interior DL looks very good.

The DE talent is a glass half full or glass half empty kind of thing. Barring suspensions, we are probably league average or so at defensive end.

I think out thinnest position is currently linebacker, although Nzoacha, may have alleviate that some. All in all this is a pretty deep and talented roster.

Quality depth by position.

DL: Crawford, Irving, Jenkins
LB: Nzeocha, Wilson, Gachkar, Morris
DB: Heath Olatoye Thomas
OL: Leary Looney
TE: Escobar Swaim
RB: Morris, DJ, DMC
QB: Dak
WR: Butler Lucky

If Tapper, Collins, Mayowa and Green come through then we have all kinds of depth.

I agree with everything you listed. I feel Green is solid depth but hope to see him on the right side sometime in the next 2 games. I think he needs better game shape cause he starts off pretty well

LT's backups were Turner the Burner and Sproles. They also had a heckuva fullback lead blocking for them too.

I hope the Mayowa signing pays off and he can get to the QB at RDE.

We have the bodies @DE not sure about the talent and thats important
The position may prove out but I can't see it being top line. Draft.

LB is spotty even with Smith firing up next year. Draft.

DB I currently comfortable with.

OT waiting on Green.

TE sort of OK its a little confusing to me. Keep Escobar. Next year if Rico can get it then it all clears up.

WR if a stud is there in the draft.

I think biggest weakness is pass rushing DE. SS would be next. I'm ok with Green, he needs to get in game shape

I think you nailed it. Safety doesn't look good to me, and defensive end still looks highly questionable until somebody proves otherwise.

That would be me that said EXACTLY that. Here is my take on the entire roster:

QB: Great (surprisingly, this was bad and after Dak I love it.
RB: Great
WR: Solid
Oline: OK Other than Leary I dont like anyone else
TE: Solid

DE: Horrid
DT: Good
LB: Poor I am not including Smith in this.
Safety: Horrid
Corner: Horrid

So I guess my beef is mostly with the defense. But the only great depth I see is QB and RB. I see NO GREAT looking starters coming up from the reserves other than Dak and Morris.

I do believe this team is top heavy. Other than its pro bowl types there isnt much else to the roster. And we saw that last year.

And please dont give me the if this if that nonsense or the.........................he could be ok or he will be fine or he might be able to start yada yada yada.

And of course someone will most likely respond asking to name other teams with great depth.

I think we have better depth now than in the past years. It may not show in the 2nd half of these preseason games, but then against it's preseason.
But with Dak being impressive so far, a lot of blood pressures are down
RB is probably the best it has ever been, well since back when we had Dorsett, Springs, Newhouse, though a FB, and Timmy Newsome.

On D, we have better players all around. They just need a few games to gel and get it figured out.

The patriots cut Brian Stork this morning. Since we are 4th on the waiver wire I would love to know what they think of him.

Is he a better player than joe looney? If you claimed him could looney be the swing guard actually allowing you to trade leary?

I still don't like the idea of trading leary unless its for a linebacker or end who is a starter or at least a role player if we can't get a draft pick.

Just a couple of quibbles...

Oline: Surprisingly, I think Green is turning out to be a decent backup tackle. He's played better each game, which I think may be indicative of a guy who's seeing the field for the first time in a year.

Corner: We have no All Pros but I think we're pretty solid across the board with OScan returning, Mo healthy and confident and a few promising young guys (Brown/Olatoye/McKinnon) in the mix.

The team is offense heavy much more than top heavy imo.

I don't know that that is all bad. I think it's better to have one dominant side and one ok side, than to be simply good on both.

In my perfect world I would prefer the defense be the dominant unit, but championships have been won both ways.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a sneaky trade before our season opener.

We need some defensive end help.

I kinda like what I've seen from the LB's. Nzeocha has big upside imo.

Looney is also our back up C, so depends can Stork play C, and at this point in TC, would they want to switch out the backup OL signal caller.

Stork is a center. That is what I am asking can looney play guard well enough to fill in if need be. We know leary is excellent.
