Cowboys touch base with R McClain

At least with Lofton you know your getting some stability but that's it. He doesn't put the scare in his opponents like RoMac does. If your asking even with all the troubles give me attitude at this point.

Figured. Hope he's back. Would anyone be opposed to looking at lofton ?

Saw Lofton was let go today. Don't know if he would fit Rod's scheme since he is coming from a 3-4, but by stats looked to have had a good year.

Very much agree. RoMac is the only person on our defense who starts to enter into scary territory. I remember watching the 49ers D in the playoffs a couple years ago at their peak and thinking good god it looks like they have legit werewolves playing on their defense.

McClain is the only player on our squad who qualifies as a monster (though I'll admit I think he elevated Durant to mini wolf at times). The Defense needs someone to make the other guys look like little kids a couple times a game, even if it means he takes a play off or blows some underneath coverages.

Great, except he's a split hair away from a suspension, and probably more after that.

The team walks around on eggshells around him. I like his game, but I'm tired of his act.

I'm worried more about his head being more like an eggshell.

Great news! If it were not for him we might have been 8-8 again! He saved our butts.

He is the player on defense I most want back next year. Combining him with Lee will create a culture of defensive domination that will help us move towards the super bowl. They are defensive stars. If Lawrence can become a player like that too, it would be great.

You get McClain, Hardy, Sheard, Paea/Fairley, Tillman, and Cromartie and this team is all set.

Mini wolf line made me lol. Wilcox when in position punishes but he has to take better angles

Carter won't be back. That's why they signed Rivers.

I don't think we should read into that signing very much. I think the coaching staff was becoming pretty happy with Carter towards the end. They were pretty complimentary of him. I think whether he is back or not depends entirely on his cost and what the market will bare for him.

Am I? He brought an attitude to this defense.

Just sayin we won because of the offense. Murray kept the D off the field and they had some timely turnovers. As a whole they were below average though.

If Carter gets 4-5m he is gone. I think the team would take him back below those levels, he is inconsistent but makes some big plays. I would've liked to have seen more blocked kicks.

I think in this system you can really only invest in two linebackers, so the question becomes can you really invest heavily in a strong side linebacker, and the answer is no.

Your assessment is pretty accurate. On top of that you already have Hitchens. The goal should be then to have Durant come in for cheap and compete with Hitchens for that starting spot.

That is assuming you get McClain back.

I think had Carter been more consistent through his career you could keep him over McClain, but he just isn't that consistent player that you want to mark things off for. I'd offer him 3 million, maybe 3.5.

I would have also liked to seen more blocked kicks, but IMO has more to do with JG. He plays conservative ST's.

The biggest question is, will someone actually give him 4-5 million? Let's investigate.

Terrell Suggs gets 5.175 million per year... He hasn't earned Suggs money.

Manny Lawson got 3 million on his second contract. Same with Wimbley. I think The Cowboys probably want Carter for 2-2.5 million per year.

I think Carter is in a precarious place where he is probably worthy of starting, but isn't quite established enough to demand top 1 or 2 linebacker money, and most teams don't really break the bank for SLBs. So does he go to the 3-4? Will someone break the bank for him on the inside? Maybe New Orleans will.
