At times, it's like it wasn't so long ago that the vast majority of the CZ website members leaned toward optimism.

And then the dream ends. That's what happens, when we grow older. Even distant memories seem fairly recent.

As often as not nowadays, when practically the entire membership acts like it's the apocalypse, I elect to sign off.
I'm generally optimistic but man I'm not a fool

Garrett does have a good track record. He took several bad teams to .500, while building a competitive team overall. So many of you guys put the emphasis for a team really succeeding in completely the wrong place.

Laughable.

He has a average track record.

This “bad” team angle is arguably the most disingenuous argument ever made on this board, simply made to make Garrett look better than he actually has been.

Equally laughable is wanting postseason success, is in fact, the wrong emphasis for a team succeeding.

Holy hell.

Lol. We’re not trading for D. Thomas at roster cut downs.

Do some of you guys even watch how this team operates?

We probably wouldn’t.

But to suggest Thomas is another Dez Bryant is largely BS.

Waiting for your take on why the 2010-2012 squads were actually playoff teams in disguise. Once you stop chuckling, take a few minutes and explain it to everybody.

And I didn't say 'postseason success is a wrong emphasis for a team succeeding.' I said that postseason success depends on a lot of factors, and that coaching is only one of them. Good coaching is necessary to win a championship, but it's not sufficient for guaranteeing one. Holy hell, that ought to be obvious.

I'm not commenting on him being another Dez or not. Just saying we're never trading for him and for that contract so it's pointless to speculate about.

2010-2013 were almost 2000-2002 level bad. It's only by having a top 10 QB those years that we weren't a 4 win team or worse those years.

His contract isn’t that bad.

In fact, it would be less than what we were willing to apparently pay Sammy Watkins. We were rumored to have offered Watkins around 15MM a year.

LOL.

The 2010 fell of the end of earth under Phillips. They lost a few games early and the season snowballed from there. It’s not like 07-08-09 teams were awful teams, they were actually decent. To suggest the team went from fairly talented in 09 to zero talent in 2011 is just rationalizing by the Garrett group.

Your last paragraph is a howler because Garrett barely makes the playoffs anyway.

It’s stunning that Jason Garrett is the hill you chose to die on. A mediocre head coach. LOL.

I understand that you think that, but if you go back and look at the performance of that 1-7 2010 team Garrett took over, or if you look at the quality of defensive play we trotted out in 2011-2012, it's pretty obvious that you're simply wrong. You can call is laughable or a howler all you want. It doesn't make what you're saying accurate. It just means that you're misremembering the talent we were trotting out while we were actively rebuilding the OL, DL, and the secondary during those seasons.

Sammy Watkins is 25, has experience with the WR coach, and is ascending. Thomas is 30 and is descending. Those two guys don't get paid the same way.

And Watkins was a free agent and not someone we'd have had to trade for.

I'm not sure why I'm responding here. It's just not going to happen.

Helman claims they only kept 8 DL the past 3 seasons.

At the start of the season:
2015: 10
2016: 8 plus DLaw short term suspension.
2017: 8 plus Irving/Moore short term suspension.
The Cowboys have more good DL than they've had in a decade and them keeping 8 would be shocking to me.

DI doesn't even count for as 9 because he refused to show up to camp.
I fully expect they keep 9 and maybe 10 DL.

20-25 snap a game DL have far more value than a 4th TE, 4th RB, 6th LB, 6th WR or 9th OL.

There's also the basic issue of just talent. Some positions we simply lack it but DL is not one of them.

Also let's be honest if you have Gregory in the 8 that's a very slippery slope because we know he struggles hardcore to stay eligible. So you keep an extra guy.
