The Lions beating the Chiefs in week 1 certainly made a statement that the Lions lived up to........however it didn't have any lasting effect on the Chiefs so no damage there

And everybody knows that we are the NFC version of the Chiefs so I don't think a loss would effect us in the least
I don't think the Cowboys have the confidence the Chiefs have. Right now they are still reeling from last year's blowout loss to Green Bay at home in the first round of the playoffs.
Questions remain about Dak, and Trey Lance apparently has Jerry’s attention.
If the Cowboys lose and Dak doesn't play well, how long do you think it will be until he starts feeling the heat and hearing Lance's footsteps?
How do you think the media will react?

Acquiring Deshaun Watson was supposed to give the Cleveland Browns the leadership that would take their offense to the next level. With Amari Cooper and plenty of offensive talent the Browns hope to take the next step. Having Miles Garrett and a stellar defense, the Cleveland Browns are a legitimate super power- on paper.
Likewise, the Dallas Cowboys are supposedly an established group that should easily overpower any but the very best teams. And they have won 12 games in each of the past three seasons.
Game one of the 2024 NFL season for these two teams will undoubtedly send one team on their way to the playoffs with a confident mindset, but for the loser it very well could send that team into the kind of self doubt that would destroy their hopes. Winning would give the Cleveland Browns the confidence of knowing they are for real, and Kevin Stefanski's way of doing things is paying off. Losing, however, will most likely send thoughts into the minds of fans and players alike of another year of mediocrity, and those kinds of thoughts kill confidence.
The Cowboys are at a crossroads; winning helps them move forward with confidence that they are stable enough as a perennial contender to believe that it's only a matter of time before they put the pieces in place to be a championship caliber team.
Losing to the Browns, however, could send a shock wave through the team and the front office that makes them aware that they have peaked at their potential, and are on the way down instead of up.
It's a big enough game that the Cowboys could come away with the message that their window of opportunity is no longer there, and that kind of doubt can destroy a season.
It might be week one, but I believe is a "must win" for both teams.

Being only the first of seventeen regular season games, this game won't make or break the season. This will most likely be an ugly game, a low-scoring defensive battle. Cleveland is known for having a good defense and a not-so-great offense. If their defense successfully shuts down our high-caliber offense, I don't expect many fireworks in this game. The Browns are favored in this game by 2-points. So the team must approach this game with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Understand this will be a loud game with the Brown's dog pound on one end of the field. This will be one game where you know you are the visiting team. Overcoming that and coming away with a win will be a big start for the Cowboys. :flagwave:

It is only one game and the season is nigh long. And losing to Cleveland only means that they need to focus and be motivated for week 2. That simple.

I was being sarcastic about comparing us to the Chiefs, lol

As to the media if we lose ?..... they will lambast Jerry specifically because of his "all in" comments and picking up a few pee shooters after promising cannons

It didn't take long for the must-win talk to start, did it?

So both teams are good, and whichever team loses will have their confidence shattered?

Makes no sense. Teams lose in the NFL every week, and when they lose against what is considered a good team, they especially don’t lose confidence. Especially in week one.

Looolllllll
The biggest thing about these first games in a 17-game season are they are more like a preseason warm-up since teams hardly play their starters in the preseason anymore. Too bad they count in the loss column, though, if you fail while trying to get the operation running smoothly.

We have definite things to figure out.

Is our rookie left tackle and rookie center up to the challenge or will they need some time to get there or need to be replaced?

How will our running game with a couple of old backs fare? Will a lead dog emerge?

Can Tolbert or another receiver step up to be that third reliable target to take some pressure off Lamb and Cooks? For that matter, will Cooks be better in his second year here?

Will using a second tight end or a fullback be more effective?

Can Mazi and Kneeland step up to the challenges ahead of them or will we have to rely more on the old vets we added?

How will the linebacker corps sort itself out?

Can one of the corners step in effectively for Bland while he is out?

The only place we don't have questions is in the kicking game. Thankfully.
