The biggest thing is we'll be in great position to really reinforce two positions in those first couple of rounds and possibly get another starter or at least strong contributor in the third.
We need to be wise with those draft picks wherever that leads us ... and I think it would be poor use of the position that we're in to trade down. You don't get to draft in the top five very often when you have a QB like Romo.
We can get one of the top-five players available (probably the No. 1 guy at his position) and also end up with a player as good as Frederick or Lawrence if we draft wise.
Frankly, if we come out as good as we did in 2014 with an equivalent to Martin and Lawrence, that would be great.
One reason I believe we should go defense with that first pick is because of the position we're in in the draft. We rarely get that shot at the No. 1 DE or No. 1 DT available and adding that piece could help this defense take the next step.
With the RB spot, I haven't really looked at who is available, but it's possible we could get a starter-quality back in the third, but if we have a first-round quality one there at the top of the second, I'd have difficulty passing on him.
I don't disagree with anything you've said other than trading down. And that only somewhat. My interest in trading down only involves the possibility that there's a player who the Cowboys think will be a better fit compared to the player there at their pick.
Let's assume Tunsil is available at our pick. I don't think we need another LT. I'd rather trade down and pick another player who could be just as good for us and fill a need.
Having said that, I agree l. We'll draft high enough to get some impact players. We can't mess this up.
Or can we?
