The biggest thing is we'll be in great position to really reinforce two positions in those first couple of rounds and possibly get another starter or at least strong contributor in the third.

We need to be wise with those draft picks wherever that leads us ... and I think it would be poor use of the position that we're in to trade down. You don't get to draft in the top five very often when you have a QB like Romo.

We can get one of the top-five players available (probably the No. 1 guy at his position) and also end up with a player as good as Frederick or Lawrence if we draft wise.

Frankly, if we come out as good as we did in 2014 with an equivalent to Martin and Lawrence, that would be great.

One reason I believe we should go defense with that first pick is because of the position we're in in the draft. We rarely get that shot at the No. 1 DE or No. 1 DT available and adding that piece could help this defense take the next step.

With the RB spot, I haven't really looked at who is available, but it's possible we could get a starter-quality back in the third, but if we have a first-round quality one there at the top of the second, I'd have difficulty passing on him.

I don't disagree with anything you've said other than trading down. And that only somewhat. My interest in trading down only involves the possibility that there's a player who the Cowboys think will be a better fit compared to the player there at their pick.
Let's assume Tunsil is available at our pick. I don't think we need another LT. I'd rather trade down and pick another player who could be just as good for us and fill a need.

Having said that, I agree l. We'll draft high enough to get some impact players. We can't mess this up.

Or can we? :(

Brandon Weeden is 2-0 with the Texans and was 0-4 with the Cowboys let that sink in. He's had passer ratings of 95.8 and 116.7 in his 2 starts with the Texans and he has a 3-0 TD to turnover ratio.

And he was not captain check down either, he was throwing zone shots from 20-30 yards out

Anybody ever consider maybe he was told to play conservative?

Either way, Weedon winning multiple games and taking the Texans to the playoffs has to piss Jerry off to no end, makes him and the coaching staff look like complete idiots

I would wager Jerry was more pissed about that after the game than losing a meaningless game against the Bills

That would be my guess he skipped out on the media for the first time this year

Here's what a PO'ed Bills' fan posted on their forum... made me LOL!

"I have been a diehard for more than 30 years. I even made the mistake of making my son a Bills fan. Do you think I can get arrested for child abuse?"

Why was he upset? They won.

Weeden still sucks, though. He gets lucky one game and everyone is like omg why did they cut him, bad coaching, etc.

Say that after Weeden has done it for more than a week or two. (Hint: He won't he stinks)

I wish he had gotten lucky for one game when he was with us. :(

Jerry on Jason: "We’ve put a lot of effort into training Jason Garrett. I want to take advantage of that. If we don’t have him, we don’t get payback for all the miscues and losses and criticism of sideline management. You don’t get a chance to benefit from the one way you learn - and that is the mistakes you make. So i want to have him around. "

I have to admit I was wrong about Zimmer. I thought he was a wimp, but he's got marbles.

I've been saying we need a new QB/RB/WR and need to make it a priority. At the risk of my family's safety, I'll say we need a new TE too.

Basically we need a major overhaul of all the skill positions and I hope that can be done within 2-3 years.

It would not bother me in the least if we committed that to the offense.

But there is this CB thing. Can't ignore that. You can never have enough of 'em.

He was clearly told to play conservative even Romo was checking down a lot in the opener. Weeden won games in Cleveland and has won two important games with Houston despite being with them only a few weeks. That's a big slap in the Cowboys face on how they've been running their offense. Weeden has won games with every team he's been with but the Cowboys. I believe his lack of success in Dallas had more to do with the system and coaching than him as a QB.

We've only won one game with 3 backup QBs even Dave Campo did better than that with all the QBs he went through. Romo had a losing record from 2010 to 2013 despite putting up efficient numbers. I know from watching him on the sidelines during those 8-8 seasons that he wasn't thrilled with the offensive approach at times.

I think we have more than enough talent on offense. I'd much rather invest high draft picks into the defense.

Weeden is 1-0 not 2-0. He came in last week in relief of Yates because he got injured. Same as when he came in for Romo for us in week 2.
