Keep in mind there a 6 "gaps" and only 4 DLinemen.
Without getting into naming conventions, the gaps are:

• Outside RT
• RT - RG
• RG - OC
• OC - LG
• LG - LT
• Outside LT

Even if all DL execute their assignments, the LBs each have a gap to cover.

The gap assignments are dependent on the offensive play.

Easier to name them A gap B gap C gap etc

I believe Marinelli should have been fired after that game.

What a disaster. You have to go back to the 85 playoff loss to the Rams to see a worse defensive effort .

Back then it was EDickerson Against the Dallas base Flex. He killed us.

No excuse for Marinelli staying in the 4-2-5 nick package so much.

We needed 3 LBs and S help.

No adjustments .

No nothing.

The thing is, Marinelli blew that loss off like it never happened. Ever got mad at a reporter after the loss/interview.

The stupid cover 4 play vs the Packers at the end of the 2016 playoff game should have got him Fired too

Well yes, but I think it's important that someone in the Cowboys' organization understand why they gave up so many yards on the ground and what they are going to do to fix this. They picked up some DL in FA and spent some capital in the draft but did that address the fundamental issue (e.g. was it scheme, talent, or both? Somehow I doubt it was talent. I don't believe the Saints and the Patriots had a vastly superior front 7. Maybe some combination of scheme and experience. Either way we need a stronger performance by both sides of the ball if we ever meet the Rams again in the playoffs. Every other NFC team I think we can beat, home or away.
