Cannot PUP a player during the regular season who wasn't placed on PUP at the beginning of the preseason. He can only go on IR.

That's the Active/PUP list. The Reserve/PUP rule is different now.

Reserve/PUP list: Teams must decide by the 53-man roster cutdown deadline (Aug. 30 this season) whether to place a player on this list. Players placed on this list at that time must miss at least the team's first four games -- down from six in seasons prior to 2022.

Washington could still be put on this list, if they choose.

Interesting. It does appear that has been changed. I'm curious what the difference is between this and short-term IR. The main thing appears to be the ability to put them on the list at cutdowns rather than having to carry them for a day on the 53 like with IR. If that's the case, I would definitely PUP Washington.

You have to be on the active/pup list to be eligible to be placed on the reserve/pup list. That's why players that have been hurt in camp need to be on the 53 and then moved to IR so that they can be eligible to return from IR.
