Dang Cooper just dumped. Never got to battle for #3. The new draft pick must be a pet already...

I believe it's more like since it was clear that Rush was not going to be the No. 2 quarterback then it's better to let him move on. He's not a developmental No. 3 at this point so he had no chance of remaining here.

The guy that Garrett had decided was going to be his #2 QB didn't even make it to TC under MM. He was replaced with a REAL backup QB and a REAL developmental prospect from the draft.

Not only THAT but its pretty clear we now keep 3 QB's under MM instead of 2 under the horrid Garrett.

Also they same Garrett that insisted that Brad Johnson be the backup to Romo when everyone knew Brad had nothing left in his arm. You saw what happened when he had to play and then they had to bring in Brooks Bollinger who was even worse than Brad Johnson.

Yes, the same moron that kept Weedon as his backup QB for several years. Then was finally replaced due to a Romo injury, Garrett wouldn't trust to run the offense. LOL

Weedon was then cut that same year.

Just my guess but I think we carry 3 QB
DiNucci is a guy they wanted bad enough to use a pick on because they know many teams wanted him as a UDFA
Don’t think they give them another chance to get him
Yeah, wouldn't make sense to make him susceptible for poaching.

Lol I can just see Cooper Rush blaming Dak for this. “Mfer should’ve already been signed” lol.

but why sign Rush for $2M to begin with?

Rush was signed two months ago with the Cowboys not entirely certain who was going to be available and if so, would that FA even sign with Dallas over other teams. Dalton was just waived and chose Dallas over four other teams.

This is actually a good point. Don't get me wrong, I never ever thought that Cooper would be on the final roster because of what his cap hit was but, to not even let him compete for a spot says a lot. How bad was the decision not to bring in any QB who was capable of stepping in and playing snaps? On the bright side though, if Dalton doesn't reach his contract incentives, he only costs us 900K. We basically shed 2.1 mil by cutting Cooper so yeah, that's a win for sure!

It was a really smart move to sign Dalton. Cooper was lucky they waived him now before any TC as it gives him a chance to find a new team to compete for that backup. When they drafted DiNucci it was pretty certain that he would be the developmental QB that McCarthy wanted to train. It also makes sense to keep him over Rush based on dollars. Dalton at $3.0mil versus Rush at $2.1 versus DiNucci at minimum.

Why is keeping 3 QBs a good thing? Very few teams do so.

He most definitely is. Sucks for whoever is the backup here. Cooper Rush was a pet of Garrett and co. that's how Mike White got off the roster. Well...he sucked too but still.

Keeping 3 QB's allows you to have a solid back up and also a young QB to develop for the future. Trying to stash them on the Practic Squad sometimes backfires....Matt Flynn was a good example. With the expanded roster to 55 it provides that extra spot.
