Ok, so i went and watched the presser. More of the same, heres a perfect example of what Ive been saying. Both the BROADDUS QUESTION - no follow up from anyone. Then The Tapper question - Garrett says he wont practise again today. No follow up - what the hell is the real injury ? If he has had a shot, does he have a herniated disc ? And if so, how can you giys be so frickin dumb as to go so thin at DE????

They all seam to just let him gove an answer and move on. Weather anyone buys the answer or not !!! Drives me frickin crazy...

It can be frustrating.

Regarding injured players, the media know they aren't going to get any details out of Jason Garrett. They will do better asking such questions to Jerry and/or Stephen Jones.

Jimmy Smith had to be cut several times before becoming one of best receivers of his era. Todd Christiansen became a HOFer after landing on 3rd team in as many years. DMVP James Harrison was cut 4 times. My point is not retaining Rodney Smith per se, it is having an evaluation system that weights game production higher than practice performance, pedigree and/or coach/scout/human bias.

Cowboys current system can certainly be improved. Without a great coaching staff or FO, remove as much subjective bias as possible.

This preseason:

Andy Jones: 5 catches for 41 yards

Rodney Smith: 3 catches for 32 yards

I think if you go back and watch every snaps that Rodney Smith played, then you might have a different opinion. It is boring to watch WRs on snaps where the ball didn't go to them and sometimes you can't see them because the ALL-22 it not available for the Preseason games, but if you make a best effort to watch R. Smith I think it will be obvious that he had trouble getting open.

The media gets paid either way. I don't know how the team that employees their own fairly large media dept. even grades the performance of those "reporters". The DMN's best guy at covering the Cowboys is just a part-time guy that writes articles as a hobby (Bob Sturm). His real job is radio.

You are right, Rodney Smith did not get the reps or targets that Andy Jones did. But he made most out of his opportunities, unlike Jones. You forgot the most important stat, Smith 1 TD, Jones 0 TD.

Again, my point is not Smith over Jones. There are better WR options available over both guys, especially if you are only going by number of receptions.

Bryan Broaddus did ask if the scouting department just didn't have anybody on the DL that they felt would be worth claiming yesterday.

Garrett: We talked about a lot of guys, not only on our defensive line but all across our team, we targeted some, studied them, scouts had lists for us, and then we as a coaching staff went in and made the decision not to try to add anybody, we like the guys we have on our team more going forward and we're going to give them an opportunity

The question and answer is at the 6:10 mark in the presser.

So the coaching staff has final say in who to keep...and who to sign....oh boy:omg:

Does anybody really think this staff sits down and watches tape of other NFL players???? I don't:rolleyes:

Being a scout for the Cowboys sounds like working for the Gov't...What's the point if management isn't gonna listen and throw out all the work you do anyway?

Sounds like a bad way of doing business.

Man, too bad NFL rosters are finalized as of Saturday and you can't make any trades or changes at all until the next offseason.

Oh, wait.

Nah never.

Laurent Robinson, George Selvie, Alfred Morris, Cedric Thornton, just to name a few players -- they don't watch anything, they just throw at a dart board.

You guys are ridiculous.

Well they may say no questions about this or that, and reporters can be banned from the facility, so you have to work within guidelines.
1.And something tells me you would be banned rather quickly.

Shefter had a tweet this weekend that there are more undrafted guys on roster right now than 1st or 2nd round draft picks.

I also saw that 41 percent of the Seahawks roster is undrafted. I may be a tad off that mark but it is quite remarkable how that team is built. I believe they had 6 undrafted guys from this draft make their roster this year.

If Steve Dennis didn't get banned, then I think it is almost impossible.
