It's not. He will never be a number 1. He's too upright and narrow which leads to injuries and he's on the 2nd half of his career. The correct move would be to let him walk and watch him touch nowhere near what they are going to overpay him.
It’s a 1 year deal and it gives them time to find his replacement and it keeps the most electric weapon on the team. It’s absolutely the right move

Big hole like that two teams in the Superbowl had with the cheaper option??
You mean a 2nd round pick in Miles Sanders from 4 years ago? Clyde Edwards was a 1st round pick that got replaced by a 7th round pick. You can find guys that can contribute, but would they be as dynamic as Pollard?

They can certainly let everyone walk but it now creates a situation where you have to prioritize RB in the draft. Not every 7th round rookie RB is ready to step in.

Stupid way to try and negotiate a long term deal with Pollard, but the Jones Boys don’t know any other way BUT to telegraph their moves to the media, agents, and players smh

It's a 1 year deal that cost 12 million. Kendre Miller would cost nothing in the 2nd round and be just as valuable if not more.

The entire nfl already knew this, it’s not exactly a secret. Pollard is literally the only player on the roster it would make any sense at all to franchise.

Plus most players hate getting franchised so it sort of work in their favor with negotiations.

Yeah, I see no issue with the tag. You have a good player coming off injury, looking for big money. Is it smarter to see how he responds with just 10 million guaranteed, sign him to a long term deal with much more guaranteed, or just let him walk and creating a big hole?

I think the first option is best, and then draft an RB in the 3rd round or beyond.
His leg is wrecked.

Pollard will only be 26 in April and pretty much does everything that McCaffrey does. I don’t have an issue trying to keep him on a 4 year deal. As long as it’s not an Elliott type deal. Something like $8-$9 million per year.
Per touch avg, Pollard is better. If Pollard had mccafferys touches he would've had over 2000 total yards. McCaffery had 1800

They never even tried to seriously work out a deal...the Joneses are finalizing their vacation plans.

Pollard has had only 510 carries. That's less carries in 4 years than Zeke had his first 2 seasons. Even with Zeke being suspended for 5 games . Typical top starting RB these days will average around 230 carries per season.

They want to make sure he bounces back 100% from his injury and that he can handle the load of being the starter before giving him long term money.

If Pollard doesnt have the same speed or burst or gets injured again with increased work load, then you let him walk next year. This is basically a one year prove it deal.
