The Dallas Cowboys were at Levi's Stadium on Sunday for a meaningless preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.
However, wide receiver Dez Bryant found a ton of value in the exhibition match. Although sidelined with nearly half the team's starters as a precautionary measure, Bryant dressed out in full pads and envisioned himself making a return trip for Super Bowl 50.
Before the game began, Bryant spoke with owner/GM Jerry Jones. No. 88 had a chilling message for the long-time owner.
"Mr. Jones, you know why I want to be here in a few months?" Bryant told Jones in regards to the Super Bowl. "For you. I want to win this one for you."
Jones became emotional when retelling the story on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday afternoon. Jones treats Bryant as one of his own and their bond is quite strong.

I was more affected by the story Jerry told of his father and the new station wagon.

I can tell you first hand that, as you get older, things like that become more and more emotional. Whether it's your parents, your kids, or your longtime friends, there are things that have happened in your life that you don't think twice about when you're 25, but make you bawl like a baby when you get older.

To Jerry, the majority of these guys are like adopted sons. Some more than others.
Dez is on a mission. I love it.

Agree - never underestimate the power of a father figure and Im not just talking about underprivileged kids who never had one. I had the greatest dad in the world but my college basketball coach had a profound impact on me. I think the things you learn as a member of a team under the pressure of competition stays with you forever and it can never be duplicated in everyday life.

Jerry's personal feelings for his players, especially from his position of an owner and billionaire must be overwhelming to a young player. Even the jaded and pompous Keyshawn admitted he was in awe of Jerry.

Didn't hear about that - mind giving a quick rundown of that story?

The relationship between Jerry and Dez is special. When Jerry told Dez he loved him after he signed his contract (and vice versa), I knew it was more than just a boss-employee relationship. Jerry may be the most stable male influence Dez has ever had.

Say it!

When it's all said and done, life is about relationships not material possessions.

In a nutshell, his father bought a new station wagon, and in those days, that was a big event, like buying a house. Family and friends came around to see it when it arrived.

Well, the guy he bought it from didn't secure the back door (or something, I'm not sure the exact detail), and he damaged it when he was driving it up to Jerry's father.

Jerry said his dad said (paraphrasing), "I can go over there and say what makes me feel better right now, even though he already feels bad and he didn't mean to do it, or I can not say anything and be understanding, and we'll have a friend for life."

That really got Jerry choked up.

I agree, and that is what sets JJ apart. Love him or hate him, he's played ball at a high level AND he truly loves the sport and his players.
He feels like he is on the team with them (yes, it's his team), and that they have his back. So he definitely has theirs, and he'll do anything humanly possible to help them be successful.

These feelings are genuine, and the players can tell; they've previously been BS'ed way too much to not know the difference.

The Cowboys are not Jerry's muse -- they're his life.
