Why in the world do you keep conflating draft position with any given player's ability or right to talk smack? They are not in any way related.
Had we not drafted Escobar when we did, and had he slid into the third round, instead, where he was a relative value, or the fourth where it'd have been a no-brainer, and we taken him then...could he then be talking smack and that would be somehow ok with you?
You have it all wrong I'm not conflating "draft position" with a players right to talk smack I'm saying they need to "produce" in games to have the right to talk smack. Regardless of how high a player is drafted that doesn't give them the right to talk smack but making plays on game day does. Had we drafted Escobar lower than the 2nd round him talking smack wouldn't matter to me or anyone else. His 2nd round draft selection has put more scrutiny on him because the previous two 2nd round TE's the Cowboys drafted were flops. Fans wouldn't have gotten so upset had the Cowboys drafted Escobar in the 4th round but this team needs to be looking for starters in the 2nd round.
The team is having trouble fitting these TE's into the passing game and having to relegate them to blockers. They're not drafting these TE's to be starters they're drafting them as a compliment to the great TE they have and it hasn't worked out due to the talent they have at the skill positions. Witten is Romo's security blanket and Dez is the Cowboys big play threat with Williams emerging as a big play threat himself. There's not enough balls to go around to make a player like Escobar worth his draft position. The Cowboys are going to have to decide between Escobar and Beasley in the slot.
