the misread is on crayton. Not on romo. There was no safety. Crayton told michael irvin on his radio show that it was a dig route that was called with just enough to get a first down, but when there was no safety help it becomes a go route and crayton screwed it up.

Romo read it correctly and threw it perfectly, crayton hesitated slowed down and then couldnt catch up.

I like crayton, but that is on him 100%. To say anything else is incorrect, especially when he said it himself.

Exactly. Here's the interview.

Direct quote - "I wish I wouldn't have hesitated one bit."

Forget that play. He needs to catch that pass in the third quarter for the first down.

This play is clearly more important than the third down play.

He quit the route, and it wasn't an early read and hesitation. He simply stopped running the go route. He didn't break the pattern off and look inside. That's a touchdown that he quit on. It's shameful...but over and time to move on.

He shouldn't be thinking about the drop and his hands. He's got good hands. He needs to figure out why he quit. Conditioning? Mentality? Did expect to get it? Why is Dallas still looking for a veteran WR?

Listen to the interview it wasn't a 'Go Route'.

And.

If he makes the catch in the third quarter that play may never even be happening. Romo at that point could be taking a knee.

Or better yet, Barber is barreling over Pierce to close it out.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm just an unfrozen caveman lawyer.

I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists.

I don't understand complicated things like "routes" or "coverages" or "assignments." My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts.

But there is one thing I do know. If Patrick Crayton would have kept running, we'd have had a touchdown and won the game. :(

Earlier this year there was an article where Crayton admitted that he did. He even went so far as to say someone close to him asking him why he let up had a profound effect on him.

Yep, unfortunately that is what I remember also.:bang2:

First off - I'm not the biggest Crayton apologist or anything.

Anybody that really follows NFL football knows that on any and every given play the WR's have several different routes that they run based on the defensive alignment and coverage.

Manning and Harrison do it best these days.

Crayton doesn't know if him and Romo are on the same page. He pulls up and looks back because he's not sure if Romo expects him to break off his route or keep heading to the corner.

We all know the result.

Crayton didn't quit on the route he just simply wasn't sure of the pattern Romo expected him to run based on the coverage.

That's not uncommon when you have an unexperienced QB throwing to an unexperienced #2 WR.
Crayton admitted that he quit on the route.

I listened to it. It was interesting to hear the interview. It wasn't a 9 route or "go route" but should have been. He hesitated and didn't run any route. He never broke out on a 7 route. Essentially, he stopped and didn't run either a 7 or 9.

I think you are assuming too much if he makes that catch that everything would have finished just fine, but it's all conjecture.

Sign Roy Williams in 2009 :)

Yeah, it was an option route and Romo made a read and threw it. Crayton just couldn't make up his mind and that cost him.

I guess I am assuming too much. I am going on the idea that the momentum would have carried us home. If he makes that catch and runs into scoring position we keep the good mojo going ya know.

I am all for picking up Roy Williams in 2009 if we haven't already gotten him via a trade later this summer.

No kidding. It was the second-to-last play of the game.

I am not saying it is....

BUT we have seen plays like that COMPLETELY change an organizations direction for years to come.

Guys we were talking about the 3rd down play that Crayton dropped. The conjecture was that if he catches the pass then Dallas would have won. It wasn't the second to last play.

After that we discussed the "go route" that he hesitated on, but apparently didn't quit. Crayton botched the play up either way.

I agree there wasn't much conjecture if he doesn't hesitate. It's a game-winning TD.

It's over gentlemen. The guy made a mistake and it cost us. Is there any forgiveness in anyone anymore? I'm sure we've all made some costly mistakes in our lives that we wish we could get back. Crayton made a lot of good plays for us last year, he just had a crap game. The new season is upon us, let's move on and get ready to cheer our team this year!;)

Rant over

Kumbya!

Sucker cost us a chance to win a superbowl. He has to make up for it this year, or I say get rid of him. Maybe we should forgive Jackie Smith for his drop.

I was a Crayton supporter until that game. Good players step it up in important games. Saying he just, "had a bad game," tells me is can't perform in the clutch. That's called choking. He choked big time in that game. He is a choker and a quitter.

All he has to do is keep running, simple. Don't stop, don't hesitate, just keep running.
