I guess those who wanted Ellis gone after all his whining were idiots as well. After all, Spencer hadn't proven himself either at that time and Ellis was still producing pretty well (and consistent). Ellis though was also holding back new, young talent (Spencer). Getting rid of him got rid of a whiny locker room cancer and let his young replacement come into his own. What's so idiotic about wanting to drop yet another old whiny vet who is holding back several potential young WRs (Ogletree, Bryant)?

Crayton moves the chains. That's all the guy has done since he got here. No it isn't flashy, but the Cowboys don't need him to be. They need at least one consistent chain mover and that's him. If you want to roll the dice on an entire position's worth of unproven guesswork, I'll simply remind you that this ain't Madden.

The Cowboys are in a position to make a real push. Now isn't the time for "potentially might be great if only if only if only".

I don't blame him and wonder what is the holdup. His replacement has already been brought in, Dez. And the staff really likes Ogletree. I think the fair thing is to let him search for a job elsewhere. But now it's just too late.

The holdup is value. He currently has more value to Dallas than he does to another team. The Cowboys don't want to just release him for nothing when injuries happen so easily and they might need him.

I think the fair thing is for him to do the job he is being paid for until the team decides it no longer needs his services, or it can get something else in return for its investment.

Work hard....practice hard.....and compete for a job. Millions you made already should ease the pain that maybe a younger kid takes your job and you may have to go find work elsewhere.

The Crayton issue has been my absolute benchmark to see who here is an idiot, and who isn't.

Those of you saying "good riddance" are idiots, plain and simple, and I thank God you don't run the Cowboys.

We have literally no other proven wide receiver on the roster other than Crayton. Not one. Williams is a joke, Austin had one good year (so what, lots of guys do and never come back), Ogletree is an X factor, Bryant is brand new and hasn't played in awhile, Hurd will be gone, etc etc etc.

The one guy here over the years and moving the chains has been Crayton. Go back and watch Romo's highlight vids. When he makes those circus throws after dodging 6 different linemen...it's usually Crayton getting the ball. The two just "get" each other, and that is an intangible much more important than pedigree. That's why Crayton is getting screwed. He has been here for Romo's entire starting career, and the two are entirely on the same page.

By all means, get rid of our only proven receiver during our best year to make a super bowl run since the mid 90s. Yeah, go nuts. :bang2:

Now is NOT the time to develop those young unknowns. Dez is one thing, but Ogletree? Really? He's a project for when your team sucks and has nothing to lose. This team has EVERYTHING to lose and we need all the proven help we can get to make a real push this year.

lol how many of those circus plays can you name off the top of your head besides the Washington & Seahawks game?? only proven receiver??? haha, his best year he caught 50 passes and has only gone over 40 catches once in his career...... Miles runs circles around Crayton, Roy is a big talent that hasn't panned out yet but he is certainly better than Crayton.. Ogletree is a project for when a team sucks in your eyes??? but the Dallas Cowboys see him as a contributer to their offense and if you didn't notice how the Cowboys used him late in the year then you just weren't watching the games... Now is the time to put the young guys in behind Austin & Williams, this Cowboys train is rolling and you can't have progress stoppers, especially when those young guys can easily give you the same thing Crayton gives or better... You are certainly overvaluing Crayton here and thinking way too much over a couple scrambling plays by Romo and his punt returns where even you and I could run those back

Because him asking for a release and him receiving one don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. Dallas has attempted to trade him, but there is no indication the Cowboys will ever just release him.

If Crayton was raising a stink, saying he wasn't going to appear for mandatory camps or that he was going to hold out until the team released him, it would be different. But him asking for a release means nothing. Even he acknowledges that it isn't likely Dallas will just release him, at least not until the end of camp (and I don't think it would happen then unless players like Manuel Johnson and Titus Ryan play their way on to the roster).

A player's salary in the NFL is paid only during the season at a rate of 1/17th of his salary every week. If Crayton is kept by the Cowboys until the end of pre-season and cut, he won't get paid any of his salary and it will be hard to find a job at that time because teams are more inclined to stay with the players they have rather than cut one who knows their system and pick up one that doesn't. It means Crayton will face the possibility of making no money from football for the whole year. Right now he knows teams are interested in him, because they called when he was put up for trade. By the time pre-season is over, all of those teams will have someone who has been assigned that job.

I would imagine every pro football player who ever played felt exactly the same way Crayton does now, they just don't articulate it to the press. He's looking at getting kicked to the curb at the last minute and come away with nothing, and he doesn't like it. No one would.

I haven't read the entire thread so maybe this was already mentioned, but if the Cowboys do release Crayton, he will be a Commander before we can read the headline. He has been a Commander killer through the years. They can't help but be impressed with him and they like "old" receivers.

He's under contract. He has absolutely ZERO grounds for complaining. His obligation is to show up to work until he's told not do so anymore. He's a role player who the team took care of, as well as his family, for the rest of their lives. The LEAST he should do is respect that.

First of all the guy is being paid and is under contract by the team. I would also state that he is getting paid well for a player the cowboys took a chance on when they drafted him. I would keep him right up until the trading dead line or if a offer becomes available sooner. If he wants to go on and try to disrupt the team; suspend his *** and send him home to cry.

He's in no position to demand one damn thing from the organization. He's been, at best, a role player his entire career and now he thinks he's in the same level as Flozell Adams, who deserved and was treated with the respect he's earned.

He has his views, he's let the front office know them, now his duty is to shut his pie hole and let THEM take the next step. He has absolutely ZERO leverage, other than poisoning the lockerroom with his gripe, and that would be a crappy way of paying back an organization that has done so much for him..

This is the dumbest post here today. Patrick Crayton won't get paid any of his 2 million dollars because the Cowboys are going to cut him before the season starts. So if he's going to get cut why show up for OTA's and potentially get injured ruining his chances with another team. The Cowboys won't have him on the roster if everyone is healthy so what do you want him to do stick around and hope someone gets hurt.

Most fans can't see things from a players perspective that's why they make these type of comments. Usually fans and teams wishes line up and more times than not it's against the player. The player, no matter how team oriented they are, thinks of himself first. No matter if it's Romo, Tom Brady, Ware they all take care of the business side first then look to team goals if they don't think about themselves then who will?

Actually, Crayton said his agent requested his release when other teams started calling after the Cowboys put him up for trade. He said that was the way he found out he was no longer in the Cowboys' plans for the future. He also said he knows he won't be released because he is insurance.

Since other players have been released this year, why wouldn't Crayton request a release as well?
