I'm not sure how Crayton managed to become a regular on ESPN, his agent must be doing something right.

He has a star on his helmet.

"Coming up next, ________ _________ from the Cowboys will help us talk NFC Championship games."

this is just plain stupid...is he a superstar player? No obviously he isnt. But does he run good routes, have excellent hands and oput up pretty good numbers for a 7th rd pick former QB converted WR? Yeah.

You can win with guys like him, I'm not sure why people continue to trash him out so much over one damn dropped ball. I can count on one hand how many passes this guy has dropped in his career, and other WR's who drop alot more you see almost no criticism of.

As far as the inconsistent stuff, thats also b/s. The guy is a good role player. he isnt inconsistent. When he's out there he gets open and makes plays. He'll never be the primary option here, but nobody else will either on a team with TO, Witten and Roy Williams. Not to mention the backs we have.

What's his claim to fame?

It isn't a catch. It isn't being a 7th round QB who made it as a WR. It isn't even that horrible game against the Giants.

His claim to fame is that he loves to flap his gums whenever someone sticks a mic in his face.

This explains the Crayton-hate. A fundamental misunderstanding of his performance that day. Most fans hate the guy b/c the the drop and b/c they don't understand what happens when a WR breaks off a route when the QB is scrambling. Crayton had a mouth and was a well-liked player before that playoff game.

And the notion that you have to be a probowl player to give an interview or have a strong opinion in this league is just stupid. They guy likes to talk, like a lot of players in this league. He's a former QB who works hard and has an assertive personality. Get over it, or don't.

But when it reaches the level that you're willing to pretend one of our most consistent WRs is one of our least consistent players, then your emotions are clouding your judgement, as they are here.

EDIT: Oops. I attributed one of Gimme's statements in this thread to you, DT, but you get the point.
Crayton himself said that he quit on the route. He called it a mistake. He wasn't breaking his route off because Romo was scrambing. He quit running because he thought he was out of the play.

I generally don't care for mouthy players as a whole. I especially don't care for ones who fancy themselves the mouthpiece for a team, who are really nothing more than bit players. It's a team sport, and when players talk, they need to keep in mind that they're speaking indirectly for 53 guys, not just for themselves.

For the most part, when average players like Crayton make statements about what the team is going to do they make themselves look like fools to most people - sort of like the Steeler safety in 2007 who guaranteed they would stop the Patriots.

Crayton said exactly the opposite. He was running a 7 route and expected coverage over the top. When he didn't get it, he hesitated before he broke deep, and that hesitation is what cost him the step he'd have needed to get under the ball he threw. He wasn't quitting, he was trying to decide which direction he should ad-lib.

You can dislike the guy all you what, for whatever reason you want. I happen to like him, though his TO defense is annoying to me, and I wish he'd shut up on some topics--like predicting games. But he's allowed to go on ESPN in the offseason. He's a hard worker and a decent player and a Dallas Cowboy. He's outperformed his draft status and even his second contract in my book. He doesn't have issues with other players, and he's never in trouble with the law. I just don't see the point of hating a player like that when there are so many Pacmans around to dislike.

Crayton dropped 2 passes, muffed a punt, and quit his route on a potential game-winning TD, in the most important game of his life to that point. Following a week where he'd once again ran his mouth.

Most fans problem with Crayton I think isn't that he's a terrible player, but that he holds a lot higher opinion of himself than the reality of the player he is on the field.

I agree, too much emphasis on "look at me" instead of what is good for the team. This is actually endemic to many average to below average players on the Cowboys, other than Crayton: James, Spears, Burnett, Deon Anderson, Carpenter, Tank

And some other "leaders" who could do with more "no comment" comments: Ellis, Newman, Owens, Romo

It's simple.

If you can't walk the walk then don't try to talk the talk.

I had trouble reading what was said during the interview. Is there an actual recap in this thread?

Why is crayton always getting air time? He's not even above average.

Because the rest of the team hates BSPN. ;)
