Cris Carter Says Witten Not All That

And 40 receiving yards

Funny.

At any rate, I happen to enjoy the way Witten plays the game... when he's not being called for a hold or false start, of course... I don't know that he is HOF
material... and there are just too many great Cowboys from the past to call him the GOAT Cowboy... I always like to call him Robocop when watching games...
my son will holler out "cease and desist" when he makes a good play or catch... maybe we drink too much, I don't know...:)... but he is probably my favorite
Cowboy of the last 10 years or so.... with Dez gaining ground rapidly.

I havent listened to anything today, but just put on BSPN radio a few mins ago. There was a a commercial playing some conversation from Mike & Mike. Greeny was referring to Romo's comment about Witten being the greatest Cowboy ever and then CC chimed in. He said NO, and we dont even know if Witten is a Hall of Famer. Greeny questions him and then CC says something to the effect that Witten isnt a threat that opposing teams game plan for and has just happened to play in an era where he has benefited from Romo forcing him the ball all the time. Then he says Romo is just throwing some junk out there with those comments.

Did anybody hear this on Mike & Mike this morning?

You just cant make this stuff up.

Yea, imagine the shock of a Cowboy who's thoroughbred was just beaten over a little distance by a camel...(chuckling to self) everyone just 'knows' that a camel can't run!

CC, great player but cannot stand his Im better and more righteous than everyone pesonality. Being on ESPN probably was the last push he needed to get into the HOF.

Whether CC likes it or not,Witten may not be first ballot but he is in the conversation.

I'd like to see a top 3 NFL total yardage rusher get denied because he only averaged 4.0 yards per carry rather than a 4.6.

Witten has never been the best TE in any given year but his numbers are just off the charts. And the guy can do everything. He's just not flashy.

Witt has been to 9 Pro Bowls. How does that not make him the tops in TE's year in and year out for 9 years? Gates has basically missed the last 2-3yrs with a bad foot. I think Witt will go down as one of the greatest Cowboys, definitely will be in the ROH.

What are we missing?

Not sure how fans turned into finds, but to answer your question, is that his touchdown numbers are average. That at times during his career he has been a poor blocker, especially in pass protection, and that he has more than his fair share of penalties.

Chris Carter?

Looks like Jim Carrey's son. :)

I like Mike & Mike, and I can never figure out why they love Cris Carter so much. Everytime he's on the show, he is belligerent. Whenever they talk about anything that isn't football, he comes off like an idiot.

he looks like that dumb *** ventriloquist dummy i had when i was 4 with those eye browns lol

Who cares what Cris Carter thinks? This guy will be in the HoF no doubt. Cris is just pissed he won't have to wait as long as he did. Haha.

I honestly have very little respect for Carter's analysis. I don't think he's all that bright. He's also lazy. I heard him talk right before the season about how the Cowboys will have issues protecting Romo with their suspect offensive line.

Yeah, Chris. And when the heck are they going to take the play calling away from the head coach? I mean...."c'mon, man".

How many TEs get consistently game planned for anyway?

I think in order to really understand Witten's value you have to have followed his career closely from the beginning. He's been a top 3 player at his position for a decade. He does everything you want from a tight end. He's not Jimmy Graham. That breed is new and are really glorified wide receivers. Witten's a true tight end.

I realize he's his BFF, OMG BESTIES! but I didn't find Romo's comment all that outlandish. He wouldn't be my pick but I don't think there is such a thing as best Cowboy ever. I think you could ask 5 intelligent Cowboys fans and get 5 different responses. None of them being wrong. Witten is in that mix. When you're one of the 2 or 3 best players at your position in your era, you warrant that kind of respect.

I believe Romo was also including Witten's other qualities such as charity work.

His touchdown numbers are average. That at times during his career he has been a poor blocker, especially in pass protection, and that he has more than his fair share of penalties.
And this somehow diminishes or offsets 9 Pro Bowls and 2 first-team All-Pro selections?

Carter is a Moron. Witten is one of the best all-time. Witten has never been the best athlete, etc...but he's a complete player that does it the right way both on and off the field. He's tough, extremely durable, and has been HOF productive.

- One of only 3 TE's in NFL history to surpass 10,000 yards receiving
- Cowboys All-Time leader in receptions
- 2nd most receptions by a TE in NFL history
- Most receptions in a single season by a TE in NFL history (110)
- Most receptions in a game by a TE (18)
- Walter Payton Man of the Year (2012)

As far as teams not game planning to stop him or not fearing him...Broaddus just mentioned this last week: "From my days as a pro scout I remember people in the league telling me that the player Bill Belichick feared the most when he played the Cowboys was Jason Witten."

Carter also comments on how Romo has forced Witten the ball over the years (as if he shouldn't make use of a HOF worthy TE), but made no mention of Romo/Owens being the top QB/WR combination in terms of TD's when T.O. was in Dallas...or that Dez leads all WR's in TD catches over the last 2 seasons. Both of which of course occurring with Witten on the field...and being very productive himself.

I stopped listening to and watching ESPN because of jokers like Keyshawn and CC. Dont miss it one bit.

"Witten for 13 yards... first down!" That's all that matters to me.

Witten is a bit of a throwback. Until this year this blocking was meh. Now I think it is top tier. He's always understood routes and defenses and where to go. Very seldom does he put Romo in a bad position. He catches the ball well. He appears slow but he consistently beats good safeties and LBers and without pushing off. He is faster than he appears to run. He doesn't have a lot in the YAC. Otherwise he is a complete TE. He is better than Ditka. He's not a Tom Mackey because of the lack of WR speed. But he'll last longer. There are only two TEs in the Hall better and that is Winslow who is a hybrid and Mackey. He's on the same level as Casper, Sanders, Newsome and Smith. Sharpe was a big WR. Gonzalez isn't in yet and I'd have to put him ahead of Witten but behind Mackey. Gonzalez could arguably be better but I'd lump them togehter with the others except as noted.

I just googled Chris Carter stats, just to do a comparison between him and Witten. The whole first page of results looked funny, because they were for Chris Carter the baseball player. He didn't even make the first page of a google lookup :)

It would help if you Googled Cris Carter instead. ;)

I'm really tired of Cris Carter. Ever since he cried his way into the HOF, he has done nothing but run his mouth about every player in the league. Sick of him.

I actually meet him once down here in Boca Raton FL. I confronted him about his comments about TO. I will say this, he's the same way in Real Life, as he is on TV. That I will give him

He's annoying though.
