Good choice. CC or Aikman would be the only two I can think of that I could tolerate.

The downside is, he is the only one on the pregame show that I can tolerate.

NBC now will have the best game time broadcasters and the worst pregame show.

Horrible replacement. Collinsworth has an irritating style difficult to describe.
Perhaps it's his "me-tooism", repeating whatever is circulating in conventional wisdom. He rarely provides distinctive or original insight beyond, "Well, I really like this guy...". He's ok at telling you the obvious. I want somebody with depth of experience and insight to surprise and even educated me. Collingsworth does NONE of that. However, it could have been even worse - Dan Marino.

to be fair, Madden was guilty of the same thing, he spoke in laymen's terms about football

idk, it was just how he presented it that made it sound so good, Collingsworth's gravelly voice doesn't do much for me, I don't find him that entertaining

That broadcast is designed for a very "colorful" color commentator - It is the signature prime time NFL event. They need an entertaining guy. Troy Aikman is a great color guy but he's not very entertaining to folks who aren't big time fans.

Collinsworth has the same schtick as Madden -- but they are miles apart in terms of likeability. People love Madden -- you hear it in the voices of the guys he works with as well. Collinsworth far less so. In fact, sometimes you think his broadcast partners hate him. Maybe they are going for a bit of the Cosell magic - but Chris is not the brain that Howard was.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

But hey, I wonder if they've been preparing for this, Chris is already doing this job on Madden after all. Though I like it just as much there as I like the idea in the real world. It sucks. He sucks.

I like Collinsworth.

He does not even approach the level of tool that is Theezman.

The combo of Joe and Paul Maguire was PAINFUL. Possibly with worst broadcasters ever.

Cris Collinsworth will replace John Madden in NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast booth, according to NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol. "[Cris] will step into the role with Al [Michaels] immediately," Ebersol said on a conference call with reporters.

Collinsworth has served as co-host and analyst on the network's Football Night in America pregame show since it launched in 2006. He also serves as an analyst on Showtime's Inside The NFL and on NFL Network.

Ebersol says Football Night in America will be retooled with Collinsworth's departure.

Details about the move and Collinsworth's replacement will be announced in the coming weeks. Ebersol says he wants the focus for now to be on honoring Madden's career.

Saw this coming a mile away... W/ no Favre games to cover, Madden thought "What's the point." lol

I will miss Madden, but Collinsworth is pretty insightful and fair which is more than I can say for alot of broadcasters.

Yuck!

Now we get to stare at those "stoned out red eyes" of his?

Check him out. Everytime he's on TV he looks stoned. I swear the guy hits the bong before every broadecast!

Do you really think anyone want's to hear Millen's opinion of anything in the NFL? First thing anyone will thing is "well, if you know so much, why didn't you use it in Detroit?"
