Cris Collinsworth will replace John Madden in NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast booth, according to NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol. "[Cris] will step into the role with Al [Michaels] immediately," Ebersol said on a conference call with reporters.

Collinsworth has served as co-host and analyst on the network's Football Night in America pregame show since it launched in 2006. He also serves as an analyst on Showtime's Inside The NFL and on NFL Network.

Ebersol says Football Night in America will be retooled with Collinsworth's departure.

Details about the move and Collinsworth's replacement will be announced in the coming weeks. Ebersol says he wants the focus for now to be on honoring Madden's career.

I give the over / under of how long this lasts at 3 seasons. Collinsworth is boring.

I don't mind collinsworth. There could be much worse people to take the job. I actually can only think of one or two that could do better. Problem is taking over for madden which would make it hard no matter who they chose to place in that spot.

Bryant Gumble anyone?

Count me as a Collinsworth fan. Whether or not it works out probably has as much to do with Al Michaels as it does Collinsworth. Michaels' specialty and appeal are his ability to mesh with and play off of the other guy's strengths and still deliver solid play by play.

As long as it isn't Phil Simms, it's okay with me. And please, no Saragusa types on the sidelines.

Madden should do one commentary a year or something like that. Just something that we don't go crazy.

I really don't mind Cris. I'm just thrilled they're not using Simms or someone like that whose just stupid and annoying.

At times I couldn't stand Collinsworth, and others he was ok. But it could be worse. At least with him you know what you get. I think most of the problem with people is....they don't want to hear the truth sometimes. As Chris tells it like it is. But over the top with it.

But as I said, it could be worse.

Good grief, why don't they just bring Pink back to do the opening song also, that would totally screw up the broadcast!
