actually in Dante's best year Moss wasn't so hot. 49-767 with 13 TDS -- the TDs are great but only 49 catches? So the Moss thing was a bit overblown.

It coincided with Nate Burleson's best year.

Nate made Daunte

I've covered this before too, in a long post with all of their WR stats...but everyone ignores it. Culpepper was good, I agree, and his best year, wasn't because of Randy.

Why not Cleveland?

I didn't see much of Frye or Anderson last year, but I saw plenty of Culpepper. There's just no real way to get across to people who didn't watch him - just how terrible he is at this point in his career. It would seem that he lived off his mobility, and a WR that was adept at the ad-lib, early in his career. He's got nothing, and I mean nothing left.

His scrambling was worse than anything we saw from Bledsoe. He was sacked 7 times a game for Miami. He had no feel for the offense and no chemistry with anyone. The only route he could seemingly connect on were 5 yard outs from the slot position. You might think it was injury related, but that's how he finished his career in Minnesota, pre-injury.

He won't go to Cleveland, likely - but with that offensive line, and that lack of talent at RB and WR - I would think we'd be ecstatic to see him go there. We could almost guarantee that #1 pick at that point.

The Dolphins O-line last year and the last few years was very bad. The O-line for the Vikings to start the 2005 was bad at the start of the season due to some injuries. That line got better as the year went on and the guys got healthier.

Culpepper did not live off his mobility. Sure he could move and would gain some yards and first downs, but he was primarily a pocket passer in Minnesota. He played well when Moss was injured in 2004. He played poorly in 2005 and got injured. Severely injured. That is his biggest question mark. He has not been healthy since and may never be again. That would hurt any QB. He was never the best, but he was good. It is hard to continue to be good when you are injured.

Yep. In fact, in Culpepper's best years, Moss was complaining that he wasn't getting the ball enough. That was the whole beginnning of the end for Moss in Minnesota.

I know the Broncos signed Ramsey and Cutler is the future, but the Broncos would be a very interesting team for Culpepper to play for. He may never take the field for them, but maybe he signs a one year deal, takes some teaching from Shanahan, then takes over in Green Bay next year.

It wasn't a coincidence that Joey Harrington came in and they went from allowing 21 sacks in 4 games to allowing 15 over the next 10. That's a huge disparity, and there was no significant change along the line. We got to watch Bledsoe completely lose it last year - Culpepper's demise was far worse.

He was not a running QB, but he did live off his ability to move around in the backfield, buying time. He tried to do it many times last year - he just doesn't have the physical capability anymore. And he doesn't have the field vision to be step-back-and-deliver passer. This is a guy who for his career up to last year was getting sacked and fumbling more than Drew Bledsoe - and he's taken a significant downturn since then. If any team takes him, they're almost assured a top pick if they make him the starter.

Call me crazy, but if the price is right, I'd prefer him as the 3rd guy over Moore, Baker, or Bartel.

Not going to happen I know, but I've always liked the guy.

if the price were right, why not? it's been awhile since we've not had our eye on #3 or so as the focus, so we don't even really know all these 3rd string qb's like we used to.

good feeling. that said we're not developing anyone per se like we were romo, we hope we "developed" someone. i still always wanna keep #3 as a young guy we're "high on" but for #2 - culpepper or johnson? doesn't really matter much to me and i think you could make a case for either so i'm going back to my group 3 recliner and letting this war wage on w/o me.

Harrington is a QB that just does not get sacked very often. He was sacked 92 times in 5 seasons in 69 games played. For some reason he can avoid the sack and still suck.

Culpepper does get sacked a lot. And fumbles a lot, too. He also throws and runs for lots of TDs. His TD to turnover/sack ratio is better than Bledsoe's.

Is he healthy? I don't think he is, so yes any team will struggle if he is the QB. If he is healthy I think he will play well. Maybe not special as in 2004 or in the top tier, but good enough for most teams. He won't be the reason the team loses, if healthy. He will be if he is not healthy.

I think the Texans or Atlanta would also be good spots for him. Who knows what Vick's future holds? As for Texas, well, Carr pretty much got pillaged. I don't know how a more imobile Schaub is going to avoid the same fate.

On the nosey.

It's so David. I have always liked Culpepper. He'd have to be healthy though and right now I'm not so sure he is.

Oh and the comparison to Crankcase is a bad one. I'll take Daunte's 2000 or 2004 season over any 2 of Crank's seasons put together, and from 2000 to 2004 over Crank's 4 year career plus his next 5 in the NFL should he ever make it back by some fluke.
