I'm not comfortable with a kicker that can barely kick in warm ups. It's rare that you kick differently than you practice.

At least Cundiff was making the kicks in warm ups...Suishum was missing 30 yarders in warm ups.

Should be an interesting blog this week. Wonder if Parcells was reading his blog. The part about missing #3...lol.

Also wonder what Parcells said to Cundiff at the half of the Carolina game going to the locker room.

Yea, Billy is a perfect example of showing how you kick in practice is how you kick in game.

Next.

Cowboys release Cundiff

01:07 PM CST on Monday, December 26, 2005

From Staff Reports

IRVING – The Cowboys released kicker Billy Cundiff and replaced him with rookie Shaun Suisham on Monday.

Cundiff had missed three of his eight kicks since being re-signed Nov. 19 – and all of those misses were from less than 40 yards. His 32-yard attempt just before the first half ended Saturday was blocked and he missed a field goal from 33 yards late in the fourth quarter, which was negated by a running-into-the-kicker penalty.

Suisham was signed in late October and connected on two 21-yard field goal attempts before being replaced by Cundiff.

Cundiff was the Cowboys' full-time kicker before suffering a quadriceps injury during training camp. He was not immediately available for comment.

Cowboys wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who had shouted at Cundiff for missing a 38-yard field goal against the Commanders last week, said the release should put all the players on notice.

"It shows that everybody's accountable for their actions," Johnson said. "We didn't need any shakiness."

Asked what he did when Cundiff missed the field goal before halftime Saturday, Johnson said, "I just had to shake my head."

The Cowboys also re-signed safety Tony Dixon on Monday as a precaution for the left ankle injury that Roy Williams suffered against the Panthers.

Williams said he wouldn't practice today, but should be able to return by Wednesday. Williams was injured when Panthers receiver Keary Colbert tackled him from behind on an interception return early in the fourth quarter.

How man reports have you heard about how great he Bill kicked in practice? Yeah, me too. Anyway, You are more likely to make kicks when you are making them all week. It builds up your confidence and most times you do better. When you are missing your warm up kicks, that can't be good for your confidence.

If Billy was missing them in practice, I'm sure the tooting horns would have let us all know in a similar fashion as Suisham's were noted.

Suisham's kickoffs weren't that bad. I don't know who started that rumor, but it's not true. I posted this awhile back but I'll post it again, since it's relevant. A Small sampling of kickoffs between Cundiff and Suisham:

Cundiff kickoffs vs. Denver:

3-B.Cundiff kicks 63 yards from DAL 30 to DEN 7. 45-R.Alexander to DEN 28 for 21 yards (31-R.Williams). Return left side of the field.

3-B.Cundiff kicks 63 yards from DAL 30 to DEN 7. 45-R.Alexander to DEN 16 for 9 yards (29-K.Davis). Return middle.

3-B.Cundiff kicks 60 yards from DAL 30 to DEN 10. 45-R.Alexander to DEN 30 for 20 yards (20-W.Pile). Return middle.

3-B.Cundiff kicks 69 yards from DAL 30 to DEN 1. 45-R.Alexander to DEN 24 for 23 yards (18-T.Copper; 29-K.Davis). Return middle.

Cundiff Average: 63.75

Suisham's kickoffs vs. Philly:

4-S.Suisham kicks 57 yards from DAL 30 to PHI 13. 29-R.Hood to PHI 28 for 15 yards (29-K.Davis, 55-R.Fowler).

4-S.Suisham kicks 68 yards from DAL 30 to PHI 2. 29-R.Hood to PHI 23 for 21 yards (29-K.Davis).

4-S.Suisham kicks 60 yards from DAL 30 to PHI 10. 29-R.Hood to PHI 35 for 25 yards (55-R.Fowler).

4-S.Suisham kicks 68 yards from DAL 30 to PHI 2. 29-R.Hood to PHI 30 for 28 yards (33-N.Jones).

Suisham Average: 63.25

Cundiff averaged a half yard more, there really isn't that much difference.
If you are going to pick and choose your statistics, I could just as well compare Cundiffs average of 67.8 against Carolina to Suishams 61.4 average against Detroit.

(And you forgot Cundiffs kick-off of 65 yards against Denver in overtime.)

Now, I don't think Cundiff has been consistent at kick-offs either. He had two very bad games against the Giants and 'Skins.

Nobody mentioned practice per say, they talked about pre game warm ups. Also, you think Cundiffs misses were creeping in his head while he MISSED AGAIN and AGAIN? Bottom line, we are leaving our season possibly up to a rookie kicker who had the shakes during his time here. Yeah he IS 2/2, but they are both within 25 yards. I'd feel much more comfortable with a veteren kicker at this point or even France or Novak who have moregame experience

1. RW should play
2. Parcells wouldn't talk about retirement. Didn't say he would be back but didn't want to talk about it.
3. Suisham doesn't kickoff as well but Cundiff was missing them in practice too. Mental at this point.
4. Parcells was watching film at 2am on Christmas morning. Worked out at 5am.
5. Wouldn't give state of the union.

I guess Bill noticed the misses in practice too. Thanks for participating.

Hey Cundiff won the game for us by missing that last FG....if he was on target, the kick is blocked and Dallas loses.:laugh2:

This is all based on Fox or whatever network showed clips of Suisham warming up before the game (I think it was the Arizona game). He missed alot of kicks but isn't that why you warm up? He didn't miss during the game, he didn't do terrible on kickoffs (if you average Cundiff's 65 yard OT kickoff into the stats I posted there is still a negligible difference between the final numbers), and you can't hold it against him that he never got to kick more than a chipshot before being waived for Cunyips.

The only problem with that is Cundiff was the kicker when we played Detroit. The only games Suisham kicked off for us in were Arizona and @Philadelphia.
Suisham's average was 61.4 against Arizona so I'll assume that's what you meant. Cundiff's average kicking off against Detroit was 60.4. So like I said to begin with... not a big difference.

Why I would have cut him right there on the sideline.

Lol, I was almost on the phone ordering a plane ticket to fly to Dallas to shoot him after the last miss.

Add to that his miss against the Broncos (leaving aside the Commander miss) and he had to go.

Typo, I ment to write against Arizona.

Concerning Cundiff against Detroit you can't really count his 39 yard kick to end the first half, because it was a squib kick. Without that kick Cundiffs avarege is 65.75.

Parcells said in his press conference today that Suisham is not as good on kick-offs.
