I say we stick with Suishem (sp?). Think about this - Why hasn't any other team picked up Cundiff yet??? It's been more than 10 games and he still is a free agent. I say we wait and see what this new guy can do and take it from there.

Don't get me wrong, Suishem still has a long way to go to prove ANYTHING to us Cowboy fans, especially with his accuracy and distance - which are of course VERY important in the FG department. If he starts to falter or miss easy FGs then we need to bring back Cundiff (for now).

FINAL POINT - We NEED to find a GOOD FG kicker!!! ASAP!!!

No one has signed him because he has been injured all season. Why would anyone sign him and waste a roster spot?

We need to sign him.

So, why would we sign him RIGHT NOW, if he is so injured? If he is still injured, then why would we even think about getting him??? And if he isn't that injured and can play at 100%, then why haven't any other teams picked him up yet??? There are a couple of teams that are still looking for a decent kicker, why not pick Cundiff up then???

Probably because these teams know that Cundiff is NOT a very good kicker, as we know that as well.

Is it too much to ask to actually DRAFT a decent kicker next year?

Not saying you have to burn a 2nd rounder on one but jeez, it'd be nice to not have to go thru this every year where your trying to find some scrub off the street to come in and try and win a couple games a year in the final seconds or OT.

Who, the kicker who still hasn't proven a damn thing? Cundiff has hit some big kicks, NYG game in our 10-6 season comes to mind, a 54 yarder to beat the Rams.

Suishman got very little hangtime on his kickoffs.

A big leg is great and all, but not when it comes at the expense of gimme FG's. That's Cortez problem, he was just inconsistant. Suishman is unproven. With this season meaning something, I don't wanna lose anymore games because of an opportunity missed to build on a lead

I see what you are saying, Billy, but those are the same sentiments a lot of us were expressing in regards to Cundiff when he was our kicker. He is very erratic on anything over 40 yards. I was one of those that wanted Cundiff gone, but replaced with someone more reliable.

Problem is, I have no idea how reliable Suisham is. He hasn't had any opportunities to try a 40+ yard FG. If Cundiff is better, then bring him back by all means. We will have to rely on the coaches to make that determination because they see Suisham every day in practice.

I really, really, REALLY want us to go after a top notch kicker like Vanderjadt or Vinitary in the offseason.

Drafting a kicker is an awful gamble. When you draft a kicker either he has to perform immediately or you've got a serious problem.

If you draft a guy and he can't win the job, what do you do? a) give him the job since you wasted a pick on him, b) burn a roster spot to keep him, or c) cut him?

The draft is for players you can develop. Not everyone you draft can contribute right away. There are few developmental options with a kicker. He can't play other ST positions or anything like that.

Few of the league's kickers were ever drafted. Even fewer are with the team that drafted them. The only one I recall being a 1st round pick kind of sucks.

In summary, drafting a kicker is stupid.

When was the last time the Raiders had to worry about a kicker not due to injury?

Are you serious. Janikowski is totally mediocre. He's not an elite kicker -- maybe in the top 10 in the league -- but as a first round pick -- come on.

I don't know all the rules and regs about Injury Settlement etc. but I think that the league prohibited us (perhaps anybody) from signing him because of the settlement. There has to be a certain period of time that goes by before we can sign him back. In truth, I don't know that he is or is not healthy right now. I think that's why you bring him in and see. If he's healthy, I would sign him. If he's not, then don't.

He's healthy - we can't sign Cundiff until the amount of time we paid him for PLUS four weeks passes. You pay players based on how long their injury will keep them out.

So we are looking at 4 weeks past when Cundiff should have been healthy.

I know that we couldn't sign him until after Week 10. Other teams were allowed to sign him before then.

well now that time has passed will we bring back Cundiff??

Suisham hasn't missed a kick yet. His kickoffs are a little short, but he can work on that in the off season. He really hasn't had the benefit of workling with a kicking coach in his career.
