The NFL as a whole has an OL depth problem.

Its too early to say now, but it looks like Steele peaked and is now regressing.

My bigger concern is what's behind him, because as of now there isn't anyone better out there.

I think they've been playing him at LT? I think he's their idea of Guyton's backup. I think Thomas wouldn't be a bad option at RT, but we're also thinking at LT. I mean, at least there are some decent options at LT like Decker if we wanted to bring him in?

He has the opportunity of his lifetime directly in front of him, and it’s his to take.

Is he just devoid of enough talent to make it work? Has he peaked and this is who he is, or is there room for improvement?

Absent the signing of someone mentioned in this thread, Thomas is probably your swing tackle.

This may seem like a reach, but I know this player personally my younger brother that passed away in 2020 coached him in pee wee and stayed in close touch all the way up until his senior year in college at Clemson. That player is Jackson Carmen! The bungles tried making him a guard, but he is and OT the same one who owned Trey Young when he was the best defensive end in college at Ohio st. Would love to see him get a chance in Dallas he just finished a solid season at LT for the Houston Gamblers of the UFL he is an easy upgrade over any back up tackle Dallas has at this point, and he is also better than Steele.

I liked him at Clemson. He would be a good guy to bring in for a workout at least. Nate Thomas isn't a Tackle, I've said he needed to be a guard since he was drafted here. His footwork and kick step are subpar. He gets beat by speed almost everytime.

Honestly, it's ridiculous. Yes, I get that Jerry's a problem. But to completely dismiss any hope that the Cowboys have this year is nuts to me, especially after the improvements and changes that were made. Unlike 2023 and last year, the defence actually has players that can stop the run and clog the middle. We have a decent run game. Across the board, there's reason for optimism imo (aside from RT). Certainly moreso than probably 2022 or 2023 until we realised we couldn't stop the the lol.

Sounds like Schottenheimer is.....less than pleased with Steele. This is bad news. The good news is there's still two preseason games, and there are tackles available if the Cowboys wanted to bring them in. In the above link I posted, there are plenty of choices.....not elite choices, but decent enough choices.

Jonah Williams was a player who I mentioned I think in April or May? But yeah, he's still available, and I remember he was decent enough with Arizona. Plus, he has history with Klayton Adams, so he'd be familiar with what we are trying to do. So, he should make for a better option than Steele. Jack Conklin has an injury history, but, when healthy, he's solid. I think he'd be good on a low risk contract. Again, can't be worse than Steele. Also, Andrus Peat would be an interesting option. He's usually been a decent tackle. I think Peat or Williams would be good choices for our FO, and neither should cost much at this point. I think we should sign them and probably be ready to move on from Steele. By signing both, we have a starter and a backup if the other gets hurt.


Just for the situation with Guyton. Glad he sounds like he's getting better, but I think a little depth there might be good anyway. I think Cam Anderson (saw him on the LT drop down on the same site) would make a good low cost depth piece behind Guyton and Nate Thomas. I think if we went Williams, Peat, and Anderson, we could really inject our oline with some better depth. I think if we can do that, this team's only concern would then be injuries, as far as I'm concerned.

Another one I was thinking was maybe Jack Conklin, but, as a Cleveland resident, he tends to get injured. I'm gauging we will have to see who gets waived at RT on other teams, or maybe we could take a chance on Savion Washington? He's young and was with the Chargers last year. Same goes for Obinna Eze.

I see what you are saying Rusty, but it's rare for OLine to sign off the streets this late. Especially if you are looking for anything close to starting quality ( which we are). Keep in mind why teams placed priorities on their swing guy.


Honestly ......I would rather see if Tyron Smith would consider coming out of retirement and move Guyton to RT.

He is 25 (4th RD pick), has 20 starts and can play both sides, he is massive 6"8 and around 350. His issue has been dealing with injuries early in he career. Probably could be had for a 6th or 7th as the Browns added players like Tytus Howard and Spencer Fano, pushing Jones into a backup or rotational competition

If he can stay healthy floor is a good Swing with starter upside.

Wouldn't be the worst trade. I think we should do it. And the Browns probably just want picks. A 6 or 7 for Jones would be amazing.

For me it's a no-brainer. You move Tyler to LT and Guyton to RT.

Jonah Williams - Knee and shoulder injuries. Had worse Pass and Run Blocking grades than Steele last year.
Andrus Peat - Retired
Jack Conklin - Ended last season injured. Had worse Pass and Run Blocking grades than Steele last year.

As I keep mentioning, Cowboys fans seem very ignorant of the reality of OT play in the league.
