Teams do physicals on players. You know that right? They can get a sense of the player's shape without bringing them to training camp.

Teams are reluctant to bring in vets coming off injuries - they'd far rather risk the guy needing some extra time to get in shape than risk being on the hook for the entire contract because the guy got hurt during camp.

Again, no interest right now has to do with the calendar.

Yes they do physical that does not show how much they have lost, guys pass physical and do not come close to being their former self and I don't think any team would be looking at any of these guys as anything more than a vet backup player. If you think teams are waiting around to make these guys starter fine I don't believe that for 1 second. As far as contract teams sign player to minimum contract which is about all any of these guys will get there is no great risk in that.

When did I say that teams were waiting to give these guys starting jobs?

My point is, was, and remains simple. This is the time of the year that you see what young guys have and you let the injured vets sit out as long as possible before signing them to protect yourself against another injury.

These guys are both experienced starters, no way that even as a backup either is too interested in a minimum salary.

I think you over estimate their value, they are old players coming off major injuries they are not going to be getting sizable contract from anyone their own teams saw the writing on the wall that is why they were released. I understand you point about wanting to see young player however not every team has a boat load of young OL players and again I don't think contract is an issue because as I said I don't think any of these guys are going to see a contract that is much of a risk for the club who does sign them.

I think you underestimate how hard it is to find decent O-line talent. Some teams can't seem to even find a single contributor despite having 10+ draft picks.

I agree it is hard to find quality O-linemen but 30 something coming off a major knee surgery? No team is going to give him a big contract nor will they give him a long contract. Old players coming off big injuries do not cash in big, if you disagree with that then we will just have to disagree.

Yes, a solid OT like Runyan is going to jump at the chance to come here and play a new position -- I'd bet he'd do it for a minimum salary too?

Then we are going to get guys who never played C to be the backup!

Bat, you are GM material.

If Runyan is so solid then why isn't he already w/another team? Bringing in older players for less money for a run at a ring must be quite a reach for you too. As for center backups who have never played center, there was a time when we have used that strategy all the way to the SB, but then a crybaby like you may not remember Big Baby or John Gesek.

Abe, you are not even hemorrhoid material, neither the Cowboys nor any other sports fandom cannot use you. You have been cut.

First. You know where you can shove your hemorrhiod comment.

Second. Read the last 10 posts about why teams would be reluctant to sign Runyan at this point.

Third. Your idea about moving Runyan to a new position remains lame.

AbeBeta, Just so you know while we disagree this has been a good and fun debate and not looking to do so in a disrespecting way.

I have seen your posts, I am sure you know more about that stuff than I do. I acknowledge your mastery over this subject matter. :lmao:

Certainly.

I note how much classier you are than Bat as well.

I know debates get out of hand. We all have our own personal views and while we may not always agree I do want to acknowledge I do respect your opinion even if I may not fully agree with it.
