Cutting Dez is a Huge Mistake

Despite our OL, Zeke and Dak’s mobility our passing game has to improve if we’re going to be a championship caliber team. Doesn’t matter how many receivers in the league had a higher catch/target ratio than Dez he was our best receiver who scored most of our receiving TDs. If things don’t improve with the receivers we enter the 2018 season with all the fingers will be pointing at Dak. Many started pointing fingers at him at the end of last season. There’s going be a lot of pressure on him this season to improve his consistency and his production.
Our passing game has to improve. We got rid of the guy who drops the ball. Addition by subtraction. Not sure Dak can handle it either,

Last season:

Dez Bryant played 16 games and had 69 Receptions for 838 yards and 6 TDs.
Alan Hurns played 10 games and had 39 Receptions for 484 yards and 2 TDs

Doesn't sound like an upgrade to me.

With the same number of targets, Hurns projected to have 92 catches vs 69 for Dez.

Catch Rates for 2017:
Hurns 70%
Dez 52%

Addition by subtraction has been a popular phrase around here this offseason. We’ll find out in a few months if releasing Dez makes the team and Dak better. All the moves the Cowboys have made at receiver are to try and make the offense Dak friendly to improve his performance/production. He’s going to have to step up because he knows where all of the fingers are going to be pointing if he doesn’t.

one thing is clear this off-season. Dallas thought last year problems were on WRs rather than Dak. We will find out shortly who was right.

There seems to be a fair amount of polarization of opinions regarding Dallas' success or failure being the fault/susscess of Dez vs. Dak. Is it possible that Dez lost his job because he wasn't good enough anymore? And, Dak may or may not succeed with or without Dez? Mutually exclusive vs. morbidly redundant.

Multiple non-Cowboys analysis have concluded that Dak was very accurate overall.

#1 in tight window passes.

#2 in 16 yard plus passes when adjusted for receiver drops.

I mean we know that's not true. Dak would tell you that's not true. Dak's mother would tell you that's not true.

Stop.

Oversimplification.

You've got a 29 year old WR with the lowest catch rate (and most drops) on the team and a 24 year old QB with 22 wins in his first two seasons. If one of them has to go, it's not going to be the QB. Time will tell if the QB needs to go too, but you're going to give him (at least) another year before making that call.

Dak friendly is a misnomer. The moves were designed to be QB friendly in the sense that all the new WRs are said to be good technical route runners meaning they know how to be where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. That would help any QB. None are prima donas that have to have the ball fed tomthem even when they can’t get open anymore. That would help any QB. The plan is simple. Give Dak time to throw with a fortified OL and allow him to throw to the open man. That plan would help any QB.

I think it's partially Dez's fault, partially Dak's fault, and the majority Linehan's fault for our anemic offense last year.

OMG, still to much opinions on Dez and I guess they will not go away until we see how the other WR do in the offense once the season starts, then one side or the other is going to eat crow.

Dak led the league in tight window throws. Not sure what goes in to figuring that out but it points to all our receivers not getting much separation. Don’t know much about Hurns but he’s been compared to Dez and some have questioned his route running. If these WR moves don’t improve Dak’s performance he may be competing for his job in 2019 with Rush, White and whatever QB the Cowboys might use a number one pick on.

With the money QBs are making these days Dak has to step up and show his rookie season was no fluke. Everything we’ve done on offense this offseason is to try and help him so 2018 will be a critical season for him. At some point you stop looking at the receivers and you start looking at the QB.

The results were published.
If you watched Dak the last two years and then looked at his scouting report and your takeaway is you think Dak is an extremely accurate passer then LOL.

The guy can't even throw a fade.

People laughed this offseason when I said Dez should be cut.

I got many responses guaranteeing that Dez would play for the Cowboys in 2018.

There were many more responses that Dez would be on a new team within 48 hours and many of those said he would get a pay increase.

You've been calling for Dez to be cut for 3 freaking years. Please don't act like your Nostradamus.

True but explain the statistics that would indicate he's, at least, more accurate than some want to give him credit for being?
