I'm hoping over the next two games that the young guys show enough that sentiments won't be a factor in the final cut down. Nothing personal, the NFL is a ruthless business.

It should be.

But I think that this team gets caught up in 'feelings' far too much.

I really don't care 'who's guy' he is or if he's called a 'leader'. Make plays on the football field or get somebody who will.

Agree and a trade wouldn't surprise me, but the position flex to be an average starter at any of the four DL positions has a lot of value. A Super Sub role for a guy who is a team leader justifies his spot on the roster for sure.

I disagree with the "Super Sub" description.

Versatility and flexibility doesn't make him super at the job.

When he gets you zero sacks as your 'starting' RDE, do you consider that "Super"?

At this point, he's a "good" rotational 3T guy.

I like his ability to rush the passer from the inside on obvious passing downs too much to let him go - other than Collins, who can't stay healthy, I have no faith in anyone else's ability to do that

Also, if there's a single position group that needs some leadership, its the DL...constant trouble from those guys the last few years

Absolutely cut ties with him. We are VERY deep on the DL and I wouldn't mind seeing guys like Jackson and Jelks be on the team and play in a few games, not to mention Armstrong.

Collins, Woods, Hill, Covington... Wise on the PS

That's enough meat on the inside on base downs

I just don't think you're gonna get a lick of pass rush from Covington or Woods, and HIll is still a pretty big question mark for me. Bottom line - I think our most dangerous pass rush 4 includes Crawford on the field

Nope, keep him for one more season. Lets see what these young guys can bring playing behind him. I think it is better for Dallas to cut him next season, saving like 7 or 8 mill against the cap instead of the 4 or so this season.

Agreed. He has enough dead money on his contract that I don't think we make that move yet. Definitely gone after the year, however.

Sometimes it's as much about not giving up plays and that's hard to see on a stat sheet. If he held the edge and a LB made a tackle for a short or no gain on a run play that's a successful snap. Coming in as a sub to play at that level has value. If you can play multiple positions in the NFL at even an average level, that's value. His weakness was pass rush from DE, and why he was often pushed to DT in the nickel. But he could be above average as a DE on running plays. You've argued that he made too much money for that role, and I've argued that it's not too far out of whack, rinse, wash repeat. The team has agreed with my assessment (not that they listen to me or anyone else here) and those guys have more to lose than I do if they're wrong.

Excellent summation.

And most definitely his lack of pass rush playing RDE is my biggest issue. I view it as the team putting one arm behind their backs by putting him out there. And it drives me crazy at how few people have actually looked into the fact that he's a terrible rusher from that spot.

It's just another player decision that I disagree with the team about. It happens. Most of the time I agree with what they do, but this is one that I disagree with. For many of the reasons this guy mentions.

Age, upside, salary cap, role, roster space, etc.

I feel it's time.

He was one of the reasons a few seasons ago, why we had the number one run-stopping defense. But as far as getting pressure. I think he's just a first-down specialist, so yes why keep him

If the Cowboys keep Crawford over someone like Jelks, Armstrong or Jackson I'm not going to be happy.

Move on already!!!
