The game has passed Gibbs by. There comes an age when a coach (or anyone of any profession) just isn't as mentally sharp as he used to be. Not that Gibbs is that old, but he was out of the game for over 10 years. The sport changed, and obviously Gibbs' eye for talent isn't what it used to be (not to mention that he had a great FO back in the 80s).
To a degree, I think Parcells suffered from the same thing. Parcells was still involved in the game somewhat and was away for a far less shorter period of time than Gibbs, but I've felt that the game had also passed Parcells by. I think BP still had his eye for talent, but I thought his inability/unwillingness to respond to the destruction of our defense last December just showed it was time for him to go.
To those saying Gibbs is a great coach or a genius, I would say that Gibbs used to be a great coach and a genius. Not anymore. 3 years is a pretty big sample on whether or not he still has it, and for the most part, it's been an abysmal failure, save for a 5 game winning streak.
