Its all hindsight now, but would Jerry have given the two #1 picks for that reciever (man I can't even say his name) if we had Moss?

Two #1 picks...good god is there anyone worth that? Especially a receiver? It's not like you can just hand him the ball...you got to actually hold it for a couple of seconds, throw it too him, and he has to catch it. Getting the ball to a receiver takes to many others to get it done.

There are only two types of players I would hand two first round picks for. A freaking STUD running back (LT ".") or a franchise quarterback. Notice, those players are never going to be had for two first round picks, because they will always get signed by their team. Even assuming you can get them, this is FOOTBALL...people get injured. Two first round picks! ARG!

Of all the things that Jerry has done, that takes the cake. Take a look at how the NFL is setting up with the salary cap. This year is a prime example. You have to build from within. Pay the players you build up to stay with the team, because FA is going to be filled with marginal players you will have to pay through the nose to get. This is going to be further magnified with the rule stating you have to use 85% of the cap in salary. Teams like the 49's are going to be FORCED to over pay simply to comply with that rule.

So, with the rising cap, fewer real talent players will make it to FA, and those marginal talent players that do, will be fought over tooth and nail by teams that are forced to spend. The draft is more important than ever. Thank god I am not a Commanders fan!

With the way our owner is, I couldn't ask for a better way either. I think we will begin to see more dynasties because of the way the cap is working. Its big and only getting bigger, and it will benifit those teams that know how to work it, and are willing to spend. We ALL know that Jerry is willing to spend, so we are good there. I also am starting to believe that Jerry is surrounding himself with people that know how to work the cap. Now, if he can just keep drafting like the past few years... Personally, I am of the mind that Jerry uses failure just like any other successful person...he learns from it. And who amoung us can deny that Jerry is a VERY succesful individual.

Man this post went on a bit...dang beer.

Great points. Not getting Moss probably did force Jerry to make some bad decisions. Even if Dallas still had those two #1 picks, I still doubt Jerry makes good decisions. The team was in decline. The o-line was not as strong, the d-line was not that strong and there was a lack of overall depth. Jerry was not making good draft picks. Two more first rounders may and more than likely would have been two more busts. Randy Moss alone does not make Dallas a contender in that time period. With Randy, Dallas probably dooes not go 5-11 for three straight years. Probably 9-7 for three straight is more like it.

Sorry but I still contend Moss would have been a disaster in Dallas at that time. He would have had Irvin in his drug period as a mentor not to mention we wouldn't have just let him run go routes all day and he would have had to block as well.

Agreed... Chris Carter played a very crucial role in the development of Moss.

I dont know that Carter did all that much for Moss.... they were winning at the time (beginning of Moss's career) I think it was more WINNING than anything.... to me Moss always looked like he wanted to tell Carter to... errr... "bug off"

I totally agree. That kind of stuff would have never flown with a dynasty like the 90s Cowboys. Some joker like Hollywood Henderson? Landry wouldn't have allowed it.

If you read Hollywood's book, Henderson said that Landry did not know what was going on with Henderson...and, when he did find out, he got rid of him, AND, the team let the Dallas Police Department know that they got rid of Henderson so that the Police Department would know that Henderson was not under the "umbrella" that the Dallas Police used to have for many Cowboy players.

Druing that period of time, players knew that they were being watched for some illegal activity, however, it was also known that the police "umbrella" that the players were under, that the players knew that they could get into SOME trouble, but, would never get busted...

When Henderson was released, he found out within a day or so that he no longer was under that "umbrella", and the police started to really put the heat on Henderson, forcing him to get the hell out of Dallas and go to L.A. in a hurry where he could snort it up with his friends...

When he did need to come back to Dallas to get some of his personal stuff, he knew that he had to do it fast, get his stuff, and get the hell back out of Dallas because the Police were now after him...

So, if I took what you said, Super, as being facetious, Landry did not let Henderson play while coked up, because he knew nothing about it at the time, and when he did find out, it was over for Henderson...

That is actually very interesting.

But, if you did actually take what I said as being facetious, it was unnecessary.

That happened years ago, but that Dudley Dooright named Greg Ellis ruined the plans of that dastardly Snidely Whiplash so he went to the Vikings instead.
Ugh, please lets end this thread before people suggest we get this headcase.

those two guys, especially Lewis are thugs or have been thugs, but they also bust their tails in practice and in games...they dont infect the rest of the lockerroom with negative garbage

that said, I wouldnt want either of them on my teams, and Lewis should be in the Big House somewhere

For better or worse, the judicial system disagrees with you.

I wouldn't want them on my team, but mostly cuz they're old and a bit washed up. They were integral parts of successful teams WHILE being "thugs and malcontents", though - so there is that.
