And others twisting themselves into calling Gregory walking and Armstrong playing better as a smart move by the FO.

The reality is we are only in this spot because Gregory chose to walk. This is not a front office win by any stretch. It's an example of when getting lucky is better than being good.

Kind of like how we ended up serendipitously lucking out (Dak falling to us) by not finding a deal to trade back into the 1st round and draft Paxton Lynch like Jerry wanted to, or drafting Connor Cook in the 4th round like they planned to.

Gregory is a human turd and a shining example of everything that is wrong with Cowboys football.

I was always rooting for Randy but it seems like i, like most, got duped into this. It looks like he was just looking for his payday. I dont see much love of the game from him. So... we certainly are not going to miss him.

To an extent true but management made an offer and stood by it, they did not cave into Gregory demands. I think Cowboys made him a fair offer and stood by it

LOL. They offered him $70 million. They don't get credit for standing their ground.

It was another case of Jerry falling in love with one of his "guys".

I wouldn't have batted an eye if we kept Gregory. Admittedly though, it would have been based on the fear of losing a pass rusher. Having said that, a lot of it was just based on faith because Gregory never consistently proven it on the field for any prolonged period of time.

I clearly remember a lot of you guys being up in arms at losing Gregory.

He was never good. He was never an impact player. He was never reliable.

The best thing he ever did for the Cowboys was save Jerry from himself and renege on that contract.
Gregory's development was stunted, and then got old. One was his fault the other is inevitable.

Wait....is this the same D Armstrong that many talent evaluators on here called a JAG and garbage player that had no business in NFL?
Never was so glad to see Gregory pack his bong and get the L out of big D....hes not even worth D Armstrong money

They never budged off the language of the contract despite the fit that Gregory threw. Fact is some will not give them credit for anything and I'm too the point I don't care. Denver paid the same minus the language of the deal.

Gregory has less games, so his numbers would probably be better than Armstrong's if they had the played the same number. Regardless, we're obviously not missing him so we made the right move--even if it was by luck.

So jerry is a fool and fell in love with one of his guys willing to blindly offer up $70MM, but wouldn't change some wording in the contract? That whole story/narrative seems a little off to me. We may never know the full story, but I think Jerry may have been in more control of the situation than we are lead to believe.

Gregory is a very good player. He has his warts but he is still a serious threat as a pass rusher. Perhaps you can argue he is injury prone, but when he plays he is pretty good.

And the Cowboys did not let him go. He left. They wanted him and thought they had a deal with him until he chose to go back to Denver and sign with them.

Armstrong agreed to sign with Dallas 2 days after Gregory agreed to sign with Denver. What we do not know is if the Cowboys would have signed Armstrong anyway or if they signed him because they lost Gregory. Considering his contract is peanuts, I think they would have signed Armstrong even if they signed Gregory. The guy they signed to replace Gregory is Fowler. Fowler has had his moments but he is no Randy Gregory.

In the end, the guy who going to outshine Gregory and Armstrong is Sam Williams. Williams seems to be able to play the run and rush the passer. Of course he needs another year to mature but right now given his limited opportunities he looks very strong.

Gregory is no longer a Cowboy, so arguing what he would or wouldn't have done here is hearsay, which is inadmissible in court.
Armstrong has 6 sacks, a blocked punt and is a key player in the league's third ranked defense.
Prosecution rests, your honor.

Gregory essentially got paid for projected production. I was definitely in favor of giving him a deal in the neighborhood of 11-12 AAV, because he could at some point be a 10 sack guy. When the $ came out, I was in "well lets hope for the best mode". Reddick would have been a much better signing
