As was already posted, I wouldnt have minded keeping Gregory and think on this team he would be putting up better numbers. But i thought of this last year...is he really good or has he had some flashes and Im just hoping? Hes clearly a head case that dissed us after he left so good riddance at the end of the day.

Gregory has less games, so his numbers would probably be better than Armstrong's if they had the played the same number. Regardless, we're obviously not missing him so we made the right move--even if it was by luck.

Possibly. There isn't anything in his history that definitively says he would probably would have more sacks than Armstrong if he played the same amount of games. Gregory basically averages one sack every 3 games played for his career. Armstrong is currently exceeding his own career sack rate. Is it definitive that Gregory would be able to do the same? Questionable, but possible.

In terms of pure talent vs talent, i'd still would have prefer Gregory if we could've re-signed him.
He's so talented, 1st step burst, agility to contort and bend, movement skills, he can be a potential All pro.

- But another note, .."availability" .. Gregory has already missed 3 games thus far before half-season to do injuries,.. Armstrong has remained durable and available.in every game.
Is it always gonna be an durability issue with Gregory ?

- Also believe coaching and scheme fit plays a lot with certain players.
Dunno much about the Denver Broncos DC and their schemes, but i tend to believe Quinn's scheme plays big in ultilizing players vs pass.

- I noticed that Armstrong seems to be at his best is when he pass rushes coming from inside ..while Gregory at his best when he is coming from outside/edges.

- But it's not just Armstrong now, .as i believe the near future player is more Sam Williams than Armstrong.
Dorace is of course, is more NFL game experienced and he's been in NFL level strength program for some years too.

- But Williams is already showing some impressive traits as inexperienced as he is ..in just limited snaps and limited role.
and he's only gonna get that much stronger and bigger and even more explosive, the more he's in the NFL.
Freakish blend of size/speed measurements and knack for pass rushing.

I clearly remember a lot of you guys being up in arms at losing Gregory.

He was never good. He was never an impact player. He was never reliable.

The best thing he ever did for the Cowboys was save Jerry from himself and renege on that contract.

he was good, was an impact player, but was absolutely not reliable and missing out on him long term was a blessing. I was bummed we lost him but couldn’t be happier about it now and Armstrong has been a revelation

Gregory is a stud…believe the dude was top 10 in pass rush productivity this year before getting hurt so he was playing up to his contract.

Armstrong has stepped up in a major way though…so I’ll eat crow for banging the table on needing to keep RG.

Gregory balled out before he got injured. I don't think Denver regrets that contract at all.

Denver's defense is 3rd. I don't think they really care.

Gregory is a waste of talent. It shows you can take all the measurables, SPARQ, etc. and flush em, because heart and work ethic are paramount.

Yep, never could be counted on. Sure he's flashed on the field at times but had zero regret with letting him walk from day 1.

The Cowboys got fortunate. If I recall didn't Stephen hint that DA was not a replacement for Randy Gregory? Apparently he is lol. I believe the move was to replace his production with multiple guys, DA, Fowler , Sam Williams

Sam Williams was supposed to be the direct replacement for the stoner and he's proven to be at least as good and hasn't gotten suspended or injured yet.

I was VERY happy when Gregory signed with Denver. He’s nothing but an overrated head case. We dodged a huge bullet with him and were stupid for offering him the contract he turned down.
Yep, sometimes the best moves are the ones that aren't done. This is one of the first times that a player's knuckleheadness worked in our favor. We saved money and other players stepped up and produced. Whew, thanks Gregory for turning the contract down.
