Are we really arguing whether DT is a bigger need than freaking DE? Not to mention the money tied up to the middle (TCraw/Thornton). We had a rookie 3T with 5 sacks. Another 3T making 9mil. Our ends are pathetic when compared to what we need for a championship caliber roster. A true end shores up the line and slots Craw back to the 3 where he belongs, whether he likes it or not.

Stahp (obliviously, not at you, Idgit)

I don't remember us getting any push up the middle making it difficult for QBs to step into their throws.

We've just got a lot to address on defense right now. I'm pretty protective of those picks.

I do see Richardson as the kind of move Dallas would make a few weeks after FA settles down, though, if the Jets want to move him. I mentioned in another thread that bundling him in a 3 way with Denver for Romo had some appeal. I just don't want to give up our 4th. We're already down a 5th (and up a 7th) from that Cassell trade, remember.

It may just be my imagination running off on me again. The idea of Dallas making a bold move that isn't really that risky or costly to put them over the hump to win a Ship is just so damn Appealing.

Sort of like how New England did when they signed Revis, Browner, Chung.

Doing something so bold, that it wasn't thought of as a real possibility by others.

I wonder if we take a good look at Nick Fairley if hes still on the market after 5 days or so. Especially after losing McClain
Fairley probably won't make it.

Said it before and will continue to say it.

The first player Dallas signs in this free agency period will likely get a big fat chorus of "WHO?".

You remember correctly. Players like McClain would be looking really really active but rarely making anyone nervous.

But hey, DT was a strength.

Richardson's definitely one of those players that fits into that category. He's a talented dude.

FWIW, here's what Stephen had to say about the Richardson deal when it came up last:

“You can’t just overpay for something even though you may want it and it may be tempting,” Jones said Wednesday, via the Star Telegram. “We just didn’t feel like the value was there in terms of the trade for us.

“…As I’ve said all along, we always look for opportunities to get better, but we’re certainly not going to force the issue. At some point, if you will, [you could] really compromise our team in the future overpaying for something for the moment.”
So, they like him. They just didn't want to pay the price.

Even if I agreed with you, which I don't, just because you make the argument that the DT position was the strength of the defense last year...it was on a defense that was not great last year despite the numbers.

We had zero DTs with pro-bowl or all pro play last year. I honestly doubt we have people at DT last year that would be starters on even half of the other rosters in the NFL.

DT is without a Doubt a position of Need of upgrading. Esp if you are losing your best DT in TM. The only other DT on the roster that has shown starting promise to me is Collins as a Rook. We could use better DTs at both the 1 and the 3 tech.

Agreed...........Our entire DL, including our DTs, are nothing but a bunch of JAGs

Oh wow. I wouldn't give him big money or multiple years. He could slip back into his lazy ways.

Hopefully the frenzy dies down soon or there won't be much left on the DL side in FA. There is still some at least decent talent, but they may not last long. Some teams are already signing depth players like Cornelius Washington to stock up prior to the draft.

I'm not sure if this has been talked about before or not. But Sheldon Richardson could be a crucial addition with just the cost of our 4th round pick max, honestly the Jets might even take just a deal as our 6th round this year and our 5th next year for Richardson. The jets have been unloading contracts left and right to get back to good standings with the Salary Cap.

Hypothetical with the addition of Richardson and then maybe Elvis Dumerville or D-Ware followed by 1st(Takk) or 2nd draft choice at Edge, would absolutely make our Defensive line into a Force!!

LE - D.Lawrence/Irving/Mayowa
1tech - S.Richardson/Thornton
3-tech - T.Crawford/Collins
RE - E.Dumerville/Takk(Draft)/Tapper

Gives me goosebumps just thinking about...

Shelden Richardson for 2018 4th. And sign Demarcus Ware. Draft TWO young edge rushers like Willis/Rivers and Kpassagnon/Joe Mathis. Would trade T. Crawford as well.

LE - D.Lawrence/Tapper
1tech - S.Richardson/Thornton
3-tech - Collins/Irving
RE - Mayowa/Ware/DRAFT PICK
