Dak and something that doesn't show up on stat sheet

A lot of folks, myself included, like to point to stats as a way to measure a player. Dak has been extremely impressive in this regard with one of the best starts in NFL HISTORY by a rookie QB in several key categories. This is HUGE.

However, listening to players and Dallas reporters, I keep hearing how different everything feels this year compared to years past. You don't see Dez blowing up on the sidelines like years past, you see Zeke starting to hit his stride, and you also see an undermanned Cowboys defense doing enough to help the team win. Im not trying to take away anything from their efforts. But Dak and his leadership is a primary reason things are different across the board this year.

Last year when Romo went down the wheels fell off and I got the sense that many Cowboys fans saw the same thing happening this season. However, it didn't because of Dak Prescott. He not only does an extremely good job at his primary duty as QB, but there is zero doubt he elevates the play of everyone around him. I only saw this for 3 seasons at MSU as he lifted an average group of players to the top of the college football world.

Not that I feel the Cowboys are just average players, but I see him doing the same thing now that he did at MSU. Trust me, it is ONLY going to get better.

I absolutely agree.

I'll admit, I didn't know a ton about his background until researching him more during the preseason. But after standing back in relative awe at his composure and ability to lead a huddle, my "aha" moment came when learning his undergrad and graduate degrees are in psychology and workforce leadership.

His ability to lead isn't by accident or happenstance.

I love Dak but this team wasn't going anywhere last season with Romo. Having an elite running game is what makes this team tick.

Agreed, Dak contributes TREMENDOUSLY to that running game as well. I think Dak and Zeke are tied for rushing TDs? Dak will get plenty more as well. They go well together.

Quotes have emerged since last season that people saw Matt Cassel's weak arm in practice and wondered aloud, "This is our guy?"

The lack of an elite running game undoubtedly impacted last season's outcome, but so did the absence of a quarterback in the huddle that can inspire those around him through his play and/or approach.

Good call. It's a subtle addition to the running game. I believe Dunbar's TD came on what amounted to a zone read; the defensive end kept containment on Dak in case he kept the ball, while making no attempt to stop Dunbar.

I mean this out of total respect, but the Cowboys played plenty of weak *** defenses last season and still lost.
Yes, and do not get me wrong Dak is doing great. I just feel that teams are still trying to figure him out and he has been lucky that the defenses he have played are weak. If he plays the full 16 I expect NYG, Phi, and Wash to have something for him and lets not forget Balt, and Pitt are on the schedule also. There is not enough film on him to gauge tendencies accurately whether that is coaching (LOL) or his talent. What is disturbing is inability to pass for touchdowns, maybe its a timing/mechanics thing but he has a lot of almost there TD passes. He is playing the above average bus driver a la Russell Wilson which is not a bad role for a rookie QB it just is not going to be good playing the likes of GB, maybe Cincy, the NYGs again where he will need to sling it. Having a suspect defense does not matter, right now as this team is constructed a 14 point deficit is a loss

Easy, ready?

Romo with average running game = 8-8
Romo with great running game = 12-4

It's funny how the goalposts keep getting pushed back for Dak. "Well it's just preseason. He won't do that in a real game!" Then he's doing it in real games. "Well, those teams aren't legit." He's putting up points on the scoreboard. "Well those aren't REAL points! He didn't throw it into the endzone!" Dak is legit. Coaches will scheme him, but he's a film buff and he will adjust.

I think a few guys just need to make the transition and turn in their cowboys jerseys and go be eagles fans. It's amazing to me how some people are actually angry that we've found our guy for qb of the future, given he doesn't suddenly implode. This will save us years of the qb wasteland that the cowboys had to suffer in until they found Romo and it lets us use our high picks on defense.

Haha, I still recall clear as day "He will never play an NFL snap." Then it goes to "Well these are just vanilla defenses, wait until he sees an exotic blitz and teams gameplan him!" Now it is "Well the level of competition is bad, wait until he plays a REAL team, then we will know!" So predictable it is kinda funny.

People need to be glad we found a guy that is helming the ship at the cost of a 4th rounder. That enabled us to get Zeke, whoever we draft 1st next year, and Jaylon Smith. If we don't mess up next year's pick, that could be another solid defender, and we'd be well on our way to rebuilding the defense.
