Dak Better Not Be A One Year Wonder

Even worse looked like a deer in headlights in the 1st quarter. What starting qb drives a team 95 yards then has to hold a fg snap ? Dumb move parcells !

I really don't blame that on Romo. The Seahawks brought in an extra slick ball - infamously known as the "K" ball - which contributed to the bobble. I think the league has since changed the process on which balls are available for a field goal. But that was one of those situations where Seattle got away with "cheating".

I know this is way off but I'm not worried about Dak with this O line. When/if this O line goes downhill is when I think he'll really be tested.

Don't get me wrong, he did everything right and looked awesome as a rookie but I think most, not all, NFL qb's would look good with that O line along with Dez, Witten, Beasley and Zeke.

He wouldn't have had near the success with anything less. For example, if he was playing behind the Gnats O line we would probably still have Romo because Dak wouldn't have looked so good.

Just my opinion but we're good to go for at least the next few years which is fine by me.

Same can be said about Zeke and his success running behind the best run blocking OL in the NFL.

Romo was the holder for the entire year. While it may seem like an easy task, there's a lot of repetition and consistency the kicker would like to have with his holder.
It's simply not a plug and play position where we can out of the blue ask the backup QB to all a sudden take a FG snap and not mess up.

Should we of looked/practiced with a new holder once Romo got the job? Sure, in hindsight.

Edit, here's input from Gostkowski on the subject

The longtime Patriots kicker offered a thoroughly detailed response. “There’s a lot of things that go into it that people don’t see,” Gostkowski said. “When you only have a split-second to see the ball, and you expect the ball to be leaning a certain way, the laces pointed a certain way, and if they’re not, it can really affect where the kick goes, for him to put it down as fast as he can to where I can see it as long as I can. And all of it starts with a good snap. All of the snappers have done a great job, and (Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona) has done a great job. “So, it makes a big difference. I get to the ball pretty fast. You’ve got to get the ball in the air fast enough to where they can’t block it, and the longer you get to see it, the better off you are. If a guy bobbles it or there’s a lot of extra movement or takes a long time getting to the ground, that’s less time you get to see it. And for him to be able to do it every time so seamlessly, or if there happens to be (a time) where the snap doesn’t have the laces out or something like that, he turns it really quick. “If you have any doubt in your mind that the ball’s not going to be where you think it’s going to be, that can affect the way you attack the ball, and worrying about the snap or the hold is the last thing on my mind. Just knowing that it’s going to be where it is makes my job a ton easier.”

I disagree. I believe 100% in Dak I don't think he is a fluke I think the kid is for real and would just as soon have the money to pay core players who the Cowboys would like to keep here for a while. I love Tony but given simple hits knocking him out of the game I'm to the point of cutting bait and moving on.
It's no secret ....make Linehan lose the game

I do blame it on Romo. He was never a good holder anyway. That's a big reason why Chris Jones is a staple on the team...he's a superb placeholder.

What I tend to blame less on Romo was our ultra-conservative gameplan on offense. The Seahawks had a terrible and decimated secondary, so we just ran go routes on the outside and tried to open up the running game and Witten underneath with the hopes that we could beat their secondary on the deep ball. Problem was that the Seahawks just used a simple Cover-2 shell and took away our deep threats and forced us to beat them with the run game and underneath stuff to Witten. I can understand being conservative with a rookie QB playing on the road, but that was simply over-doing it. We should have found ways to get TO the ball and force their putrid secondary to make difficult plays in order to stop him.

Dak will be a one year wonder if he starts to buy into the hype. If he stops working hard. If he starts partying more. If he's out late instead of home sleeping. If he tries to win with athleticism. If he gets hurts and misses significant time.

It's on him. How much does he want it? I'm a math teacher, and I tell my students the same thing. They get what they put into it. My best students are not the most academically gifted ... my best students are those who work the hardest.

I agree with you on the conservative game plan.

Absolutely, they both appear to be the "real deal" but they were also both put in the best possible situation a rookie qb and rb could ever ask for.

I don't believe he will be, I think he should be fine. But man that would suck...right now he's our next Romo, the thing that at minimum should keep us competitive...now fortunately he has a lot of young talent on offense the grow with him...but I have about as much faith in Garrett to coach and Jerry to build properly as I do in me rejecting a dunk attempt by Lebron James.

If he's a one year wonder, so be it. At least I'll have one decent year to look forward to in the future.
