Not sure why Cowboys’ fans are happy that we just over paid another player and gave him most guaranteed money in history.

Because we're a stupid fan base but our owner is even more stupid so it's just stupid following stupid.

The years are voidable. The deal is three years. The other two are voidable years added to spread money. No matter if he resigns or doesnt, they will be voided
not what I heard and noones truly saw the deal yet, its 6 years 2 voidable =4 years thats why ist still 4 years 160 ..until they actually release all the true details and breakdown of the contract most are making assumptions..

So three years from now Dak may not be in the top 10.l

he will by default ie with all the old elite guys like Brees, rivers, brady , big ben and others retiring etc jhes already moved up the list. Depends on the young guys' on the come up Dak is movign up by default,.,.technically hes about 6-12 now he can cement 6 spot easily with the drop off of those aging vets..so now if you look at simply age and whos left he might crack the top 5 by default next season if he plays anywhere close to his last 20 games, not records wise but we cant ignore they were putting up yards and points but lost a lot being outscored ie having defense that never stops anyone and no matter who much you score you lose..

how many losses the last 10 games Dak started were scores like 40-35 35-33 33-30 etc etc if our defense can go from bottom 5 to simply hover around 16 we will win more games especially in weaker division and also getting our healthy guys back..

So basically we have a three year window to get a Lombardi.

Yes, and I’d argue two because the numbers on year three don’t look that great either.

We know Jerry is getting up there and his patience is waning. I wouldn’t be surprised if this year and next were “all in” years with massive restructures and a big free agent push, especially with the names that are going to hit the street later this week.

Never said he was elite. That's my point entirely. Almost all QB's in the league are not elite. He's not elite, but IMO, removing the 3 "elites" from the equation, he is above the average of what's in the league now and is quite capable of winning plenty of football games. You don't throw away the good capable QB you already have, blinding praying to find an elite one elsewhere. If it was that easy everyone would do it.

I think Dak with a capable team around him and a good defense might have a chance. But, when you give him 20% of your cap space, you leave the team with no chance to succeed. Goff lead his team to a super bowl and got thrown away. Wentz was looking like a league MVP at one point. Philly gave him away.

The rest of the team matters and this contract gives us very little chance of improving the worst defense Dallas has ever put on the field. We have the #10 pick in a draft loaded with Qb talent. We could have gone another way on this and been in a better position to compete in the future.

At $185 mil cap, Dak's getting 12%

Unless we would have given our draft future away, (that includes all the picks needed to add talent to the defense), to move up to the #2 spot to get Wilson, non of the QB's we could get this year would be any better than Dak Prescott.

This seems like the new pattern to be successful in NFL. Take a rookie QB anytime you're near the top of the draft so you don't have to pay him a real QB salary and hope he's good enough to win with a stacked team around him. If not, start over again in a couple years.
Sad

Except only one team has actually won a Superbowl with that plan in the last decade. Unless you want to give the Eagles victory to Wentz... People keep pointing this out as the model teams follow now while ignoring the fact that it hadn't actually led those teams to Lombardi trophies.

His contract averages 40M a year. Thats 21.6% of the teams cap. You are using the team friendly cap number for this year which just kicks the big cap hit down the road a year. We have a one year window and then we have to start shedding player contracts to pay Dak. You think we can compete for a super bowl next year?

This formula has worked nowhere.

Well instead of a QB on a rookie deal, they are going to have to win with defensive players on rookie deals. It might work if they stop drafting projects and pot smokers.

I'm just looking around the league to see where that's worked. Maybe we will blaze our own trail.

One the perks is watching the cry babies go ballistic. Some are even getting depressed and turning in their fan cards. :oldcouple::oldcouple::yourock::yourock:

Thats what you have to do unless you have a truly transcendent QB like Mahomes or Brady. Its about cap dollars and I can't believe the NFLPA hasn't addressed QB salaries. This is not a free market. There is a cap and QB salaries should be capped as a % of the teams salary cap. Then you can spread the wealth a little bit. The league is very top heavy with the top 10% earning most of the money.
yeah a small # of players are getting all the big money, the other players need to speak out on that to nflpa, or maybe they are so dumb
they dont realize what is happening.

On cowboys, 5 players get half the cap, the other half is for all the other players lol, which would be around 48? thats is like 2 mil a year for
the bulk of the team on avg.
