Dak extension?

I agree here. I just think the supporting cast needed to win a championship with this QB is close to unattainable. Especially when you consider how our front office handles the offseason.

It's going to happen at some point anyway. Dak can't play forever. We'll be stuck without a decent QB. No one is going to be happy when that happens. How long should we kick the can down the road?
Does the decent QB win a SB without the supporting cast? He's not getting a better roster than he gets in 2023 unless he's taking an under market value contract extension.
Regardless of how we restructure in the future we've already started mortgaging the CAP increases with this post season's CAP manipulation. If we sign Lamb to his 5th year (obs) and Franchise Tag Diggs (which we'll have to do as Lewis, Gilmore, Hooker and Kearse are all FA's) we are already over the expected CAP in 2025 (when we add Tyrons Void and 2023 bonus')......and we still have no: Pollard, Steele, Biadasz and the Secondary.

You don't think I thought of that as I was typing out my post? That's why I said in a later post that I didn't think a supporting cast good enough is attainable.

Either our offenses is going to have to break through one of these years, or the defense is going to have to be historic. I don't think the latter will happen, so we'll have to hope what failed twice finally breaks through. But I'll put my hope on it, not money.
That's it, we're playing or praying on an improvement. An improved scheme, play calling and receiver corp, may do that, but pressure's escalating.

If Dak can't perform in critical games (against good Defenses), and the examples of 2 x 49ers and the Commanders (opportunity to get no.1 seed), then why put out the same QB (with an inferior roster) and expect a better result.

It's on Dak to prove, when the pressure's on he can lead the team.

The problem is that good QB your talking about turns into a pumpkin against better teams. He is not playing anything like what got him there. It's one thing to lose to a better team but it's another thing when your supposedly good QB doesn't even show up and the guy playing QB looks like a bottom of the league 25th ranked player at his position.
It hasn’t just been him the team doesn’t play that great against better teams. We’ve had some issues against bad teams. The bottom line is we have to stay with Dak until we find something better because you put a lesser QB on this team, and the Cowboys are going to struggle to make the playoffs.

We’re going to have to kick the can down the road until a better QB comes along and that could take a number of years. Just look at the struggles the Jets and Browns have had finding a QB. Look at what Washington is going through. The Panthers have the number one overall pick with three QBs at the top of the draft and they may end up making the wrong choice because not all those QB’s will pan out. It’s extremely difficult finding a franchise QB. Trevor Lawrence still hasn’t arrived, and he was the fifth highest rated QB to ever enter the NFL draft. Like I keep saying great QBs don’t grow on trees and if you have a pretty good one you have to stay with them. You just take a chance on a QB somewhere in the draft every couple of years and maybe you’ll get lucky but we can’t move on from Dak until we have a better option. We didn’t move on from Romo until Dak came along.

If you wanna use "Guatantee" when discussing "Hypotheticals" it shows you are a difficult person . . . 4 #1 draft picks in 2 years would have provided us with the ammunition to acquire a QB . . . "Guaranteed" no but "More Then Likely"

You sound like an Abused Wife . . . (Same old Story for the last 5 years . . . So Sad and Pathetic)
Look at how many first round draft picks Washington has burned the past two decades, trying to find a QB and they’ve come up empty. They’ve had two top five picks at QB go bust. In the 2018 draft the first two QBs taken number went bust! Three QBs in the top 10 that year went bust. Don’t give me this crap that four number one draft picks will more than likely acquire the great QB this fan base is looking for. Your chances of finding a great QB with a first round pick even in the top 10 is less than 50/50. Drafting a QB is the ultimate crapshoot in the NFL.

Since my post got deleted, here it is again:

Lol at all the Dak haters. How many quarterbacks are legitimately "THAT" guy anymore? Rodgers has folded in the playoffs more times than I can count. Allen came back to earth following Daboll's departure. Hurts had one great season with a soft schedule and an easy path to the Super Bowl. Lamar obviously isn't it. Justin Herbert is amazing, but unproven in the postseason.

For me, it's Burrow and Mahomes. Those are guys you should expect to be Super Bowl contenders with if they're on your squad. Everyone else is hit or miss, just like Dak.

He's not elite, but he's not bad. You want to go back to the pre-Romo days? Fine, do you. We've had back-to-back 12-win seasons for the first time since the 90s and won our first road playoff game in 31 years with Dak. He has 1,559 passing yards, 15 total touchdowns, and five INTs in the postseason.

Y'all continue their bogus narrative that he's not good enough to win a chip with.

I wouldn't mind extending him thru 25 but no further. That's if we draft a 2nd day pick every year. Otherwise, nah.

But that's not going to happen. Teams don't just move on when they have a better option. They move on when their QB leaves and the team is left with nothing. We're never going to have a smooth transition. It doesn't work that way. At some point we won't have Dak, and we'll be screwed. When you want to have that happen is the question. Now or later.

You must not be looking around the league because a lot of teams move on from their current starter when they have a better option. The Rams moved on from Jared Goff and replaced him with Matt Stafford. I mentioned the Cowboys moved on from Romo when they had a better option in Dak. Years ago New England moved on from Drew Bledsoe when Brady got his opportunity and played great. The 49ers kept Jimmy G until Purdy proved himself with his opportunity. Teams don’t just move on from their current starter and start looking for another QB unless their current starter sucks! Washington replaced Kirk Cousins with Alex Smith but Smith got hurt and Washington has been screwed at QB ever since. I can assure you Jerry Jones isn’t going to move on from Dak until he has a better QB in house. He made the mistake of moving on from Troy Aikman before he had a viable replacement and he spent five years losing games trying to find one.

Many of Daks detractors said that with the likes of rush, Grier, and denucci on the roster dak would be released. I challenge any of them to name a realistic, viable replacement that would put us in a better position. They can't.

It's very rare for a team to put it all together and play a perfect game. Even the Chiefs played a bad first half in the SB. There have been games where had Dak played better maybe the rest of the team suddenly rises and plays harder or maybe not. But that loss last season against the 49ers was 90 percent Dak. As far as finding someone to replace Dak this is why they need to take a chance and draft a QB early. The Cowboys are a pretty good team as we saw with Rush so don't let Daks regular season success make you believe he is going to be hard to replace.

Lets be fair we played: a very limited, undrafted 28 year old who prior to this season had only passed 50 times in the NFL and we still went 4-1. We can pick up a lesser QB (inc. Interceptions) and use the CAP saving to improve the roster.....a similar scenario when Dak took over.

Putting us in a "BETTER POSITION" is irrelevant if he continues to struggle in overcoming adversity in the biggest games (against better Defenses eg 49ers x2 and Commanders), especially as this years restructuring WILL have an impact on the 2024 roster.
