At best Cowboys will have to extend him to end up with an expensive backup QB for 1 or 2 seasons to dilute the otherwise wasted money involved, all that while a good QB plays #1. Lightning does not strike twice in the same league, but we can only hope for a Brock Purdy 2.0 situation

It's very rare for a team to put it all together and play a perfect game. Even the Chiefs played a bad first half in the SB. There have been games where had Dak played better maybe the rest of the team suddenly rises and plays harder or maybe not. But that loss last season against the 49ers was 90 percent Dak. As far as finding someone to replace Dak this is why they need to take a chance and draft a QB early. The Cowboys are a pretty good team as we saw with Rush so don't let Daks regular season success make you believe he is going to be hard to replace.
It’s still too soon to draft a QB early. The top three will be gone by the time the Cowboys pick and we have other needs. We still have a team that could go far if we could fill a couple of holes. We were a good team with Rush at QB, because our defense was playing outstanding football, giving up no more than 17 points per game during his wins, plus our kicker was outstanding. We weren’t generating a lot of offense with him especially our passing game. No way were we going to continue winning games with him once our pass rush disappeared. We won games under Cooper Rush with our defense and kicker. We had only one game where we gave up more than 17 points with him at QB and we lost. He got expose badly against Philly and it would’ve been downhill from there with him at QB.

From all the off-season moves so far I feel that a Dak extension is a long shot at best.
They have enough now for 1 move decent FA and the new Draft pool unless I missed something here.
Prove it (Please Finally) or lose it season coming up for Mr.Prescott.
The Cowboys really want that ring, it’s an all out season. And if he brings back a championship, yes get ready for them resigning him. It will definitely be at the end of the season or not.

There's a notion that "Dak owns the NFCE".....and that is a badge of great honor.

Really? Maybe 20-40 years ago. We've been one of the worst divisions in football for a decade. "owning it"......is just Dak Love And Protection/

Jerry, we were all at one point taken in by this mediocre (JAG) qb.
But, please do not compound this problem/embarrassment by extending this inept and divisive Deek.

Football is a team game, but Dak played one of the best games of his career against Tom Brady in the playoffs and it resulted in a blowout win. When he played bad against him in the opener, the Cowboys got rolled over. A QBs performance influences the outcome of games more than any other player. Hard to beat anyone when their QB plays great. A lot of QBs have beaten Brady, but none of the Cowboys QBs have ever beaten him until Dak did. The Cowboys were 0-7 against him and they hadn’t won a road playoff game in 30 years. Both accomplishments are something to hang your hat on when you’ve had the struggles the Cowboys have had beating Brady and winning a road playoff game.
Tampa was a HORRIBLE team this year. Just awful.

Lets be fair we played: a very limited, undrafted 28 year old who prior to this season had only passed 50 times in the NFL and we still went 4-1. We can pick up a lesser QB (inc. Interceptions) and use the CAP saving to improve the roster.....a similar scenario when Dak took over.

Putting us in a "BETTER POSITION" is irrelevant if he continues to struggle in overcoming adversity in the biggest games (against better Defenses eg 49ers x2 and Commanders), especially as this years restructuring WILL have an impact on the 2024 roster.

They weren’t very good, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying they were horrible. They still made the playoffs winning two of their last three regular season games and Brady was still a very viable QB putting up almost 4700 yards. He had never lost to the Cowboys in seven meetings and we still beat him on the road in a playoff game.

You must not be looking around the league because a lot of teams move on from their current starter when they have a better option. The Rams moved on from Jared Goff and replaced him with Matt Stafford. I mentioned the Cowboys moved on from Romo when they had a better option in Dak. Years ago New England moved on from Drew Bledsoe when Brady got his opportunity and played great. The 49ers kept Jimmy G until Purdy proved himself with his opportunity. Teams don’t just move on from their current starter and start looking for another QB unless their current starter sucks! Washington replaced Kirk Cousins with Alex Smith but Smith got hurt and Washington has been screwed at QB ever since. I can assure you Jerry Jones isn’t going to move on from Dak until he has a better QB in house. He made the mistake of moving on from Troy Aikman before he had a viable replacement and he spent five years losing games trying to find one.
The Rams went out and traded for a better QB. A lot of fans would love to see the Cowboys do that. Dak and Brady came about by accident. Similar to the way the Rams moved on from Trent Green.

Who’s going to trade a better QB than Dak for him? Lol The Rams were desperate to win a Super Bowl so they traded two first round picks and Jared Goff for Matt Stafford. Stafford didn’t want to play in Detroit anymore. Brady came about by accident if you want to look at it that way. He was drafted with a low round pick and got an opportunity after Drew Bledsoe was injured. Brock Purdy came about by accident after Jimmy G got hurt. Many years ago Jim Plunkett got an opportunity with the Raiders after Dan Pastorini got injured. Kurt Warner got an opportunity after Trent Green got injured and took advantage of it. Cooper Rush got an opportunity after Dak got injured, and even though the Cowboys won some games with him he’s not that good. Our passing offense wasn’t very good, we were winning games with defense. The Cowboys became the highest scoring team in the league after Dak returned.

We’d all love to have one of the Elite QB’s but we have to remember who we have making those decisions . And it’s just not that easy to land one of them .

In the end there’s usually only a handful of Elite QB’s and 32 teams . We could have done much worse than Prescott.
IDK.

The worst thing for a fan hoping for a championship, is to be just kinda good.

We've been the definition of "kinda good" for decades now.

When ur kinda good, ur never good enuff to win it all, nor bad enough to land one of the elite QB prospects like the truly horrid teams get. We've been a slightly less successful version of the Vikings for 27 years

A fourth round pick, or a stop gap. As I said A LESSER UNDRAFTED QB with no experience got 4-1 wins....the reasoning is that we improve the roster.

Dak has his chance this year....kust needs to prove that he can up his game when we need him, doesnt drop his head when things arent going his way in stressful situations and we're chasing the game.

If you're paying a top of the market extension for a game manager, he better be able to do it in the play-offs, otherwise sign a Mariota type as a stop gap whilst drafting

People just need to accept Dak will be here. (whether you like him or not)

10-12 wins a year keeps you relevant/in the playoffs.

Its not like elite QBs grow on trees. Ownership isn’t risking the gravy train to tank and hope to find a unicorn.

I remember Romo In those press conferences hanging his head saying it was his fault after one of those game sealing ints he threw and saying HE needs to get better. DAK is the one who almost always says the WE need to get better. But putting blame aside Dak is maxed out talent wise. He just doesn't the brain and physical talent to take the Cowboys any further. Romo couldn't do it either. The guys were seeing that are performing in the big games are all first round pedigree. Heck even Hurts hung 35 points on the Chiefs and he isn't as good as Burrows or Josh Allen. Dak plays the Chiefs and leads the team to 9 freaking points. What a joke that keeps playing itself over and over again.
This is not true. Quite the opposite. Romo never blamed himself. Dak always takes the blame. As for Dak being maxed out, I disagree. Surround him with more than 1 weapon at WR, plus a healthy good Oline, along with better playcalling, Dak will show you he can perform better and take this team further than Romo could. Keep an eye out on these next two seasons.

Dak: "It's disappointing. We've got to do better. It's starts with me..."

That was Dak 3 years ago. He's always taking the blame first.

We know elite QB's dont grow on trees, we havent had one for years. When you dont have an elite QB you at least get a winner, someone who keeps his composure in play-offs. Continuing to spend top end money on a play-off prayer is madness, especially as the roster declines.
