An irate Dak Prescott was seen screaming at his sideline during a consequential first-half drive during the Dallas Cowboys' defeat to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.

Dallas was trailing 17-6 late in the second quarter when Prescott led the Cowboys down the field on a strong drive.

But multiple penalties backed Dallas up to a 2nd & 25 on their own 42. Prescott hit target CeeDee Lamb for a ten-yard gain, following that up on 3rd & 15 with an 11-yard strike to tight end Jake Ferguson.

It left the Cowboys with a tough choice on 4th & 4 from the Detroit 37 yard line. Rather than go for the first down to extend the drive, coach Brian Schottenheimer chose to take the easy points instead.

Prescott was furious, seen blowing up at his sideline in a rage to go for the kick rather than try and keep their momentum going.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey was able to easily knock the kick through, but Schottenheimer's choice left the Lions with plenty of time to extend their lead.

The logic that Schottenheimer followed there was sound.

Team was down by two scores at that point and kicking the field goal would bring them within one score.

In fact, that decision helped the Cowboys get within 3 points in the 4th quarter.

Every decision leading up to that point is subjective of course, but they went from 3 points down in the 4th quarter to losing by 14 points.

You cannot expect your offense to score 45 points very often to win games where the other team scores 44 points.

There of course is plenty of blame to go around from the coaches to the players and even the referees, but in the end it comes down to the same thing it has most of the season .. bad defense.

It was not sound at all.

Pretty sure the score was 17-6 and this took place before the half. It did not cut the lead at all because we ended up trading FG's before the half.

The offense should have remained on the field at a minimum to run down the clock. Maybe we could have drawn them off side and had time still had timeouts to stop the clock.

Dak wanted to go for it and he was correct after watching our D get torched all game.

Okay.

I guess the fix has been in for 30 years now.
:lmao:

Given the score and time left in the game, field goal was the correct call at least IMO.

Heck, in todays NFL, it could be a tied game with a full quarter to play and some coaches would easily go for it on a 4th and one on their own 40 yard line.

Just thinking about it, I wonder how the game would be played if they didn't allow punts LOL

I take the three points not knowing of course Detroit gets the favorable field position on non existent kick coverage and turns right around hits it’s own FG
This
3 points was the right decision since we were going to get the ball to start the second half
ST and defense should be blamed for points before half for Detroit

I'm glad we're having this discussion, and you all are saying that 3 was the right way to go!!!! Goodness knows if we go for it, and DON'T get it, we would be saying we should have taken the 3 points. Dak would have probably gotten sacked or something stupid anyways and would have come off the field looking at the jumbo tron as if it was going to help him see something!! lol

He was probably more angry that the decision for a FG impeded his attempts at stat padding.

The Dak fan club demands stats so they can prop up their hero and Schotty screwed that up

Are we serious right now? We are behind one of the most explosive offenses and aggressive coaches in the nfl, on the road, and we are all cool with exchanging field goals? And they could have scored 7 if not for the bad pass to Tessla. At a minimum send the offense out there to at least make them think we are going for it in attempt to bleed more clock. Our offense was moving the ball and we are one of the best 2 minute offenses in the NFL. The only reason we were in that position was the Pickens penalty. Our head coach is the OC and all his resources are on the offensive side of the ball and we are scared? With our season on the line and our 60 mill QB and overpaid TE and the top WRs in the game? Odds are in your favor to go +3 or +7 in that sequence and our HC and play caller chose to stay neutral and almost went -4. Come on now. You aren’t likely to win championships that way. We weren’t playing the Giants.

Yes, it was sound. We have been awful at leaving points on the board of late, and also got the ball back first out of the half, I believe. I also hoped we would go for it, but we were also struggling on the OL
