Dak Furious

The logic that Schottenheimer followed there was sound.

Team was down by two scores at that point and kicking the field goal would bring them within one score.

In fact, that decision helped the Cowboys get within 3 points in the 4th quarter.

Every decision leading up to that point is subjective of course, but they went from 3 points down in the 4th quarter to losing by 14 points.

You cannot expect your offense to score 45 points very often to win games where the other team scores 44 points.

There of course is plenty of blame to go around from the coaches to the players and even the referees, but in the end it comes down to the same thing it has most of the season .. bad defense.
I think your logic is sound except it is too early to think about getting within 1 score when the game is still in the second quarter. You had to think the Lions were going to get at least 5 more possessions in the 2nd half and would score on at least 2 of them. In fact, the Lions had 5 2nd half possessions, not including the last one to end the game and they scored on 4 of the 5 and had the FG blocked on 1. Watching the way the defense was playing Schotty should have been thinking about getting to a certain number of points, not about getting close.

Normally, I would kick the FG myself, but seeing the defense giving up big plays and the way the Lions were exploiting the weaknesses in the defense, I would have gone for the first down. The offense is their strength, not the defense. I think kicking the FG is in a way relying on the defense to hold the Lions which they did not do at all in the 2nd half.

An irate Dak Prescott was seen screaming at his sideline during a consequential first-half drive during the Dallas Cowboys' defeat to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.

Dallas was trailing 17-6 late in the second quarter when Prescott led the Cowboys down the field on a strong drive.

But multiple penalties backed Dallas up to a 2nd & 25 on their own 42. Prescott hit target CeeDee Lamb for a ten-yard gain, following that up on 3rd & 15 with an 11-yard strike to tight end Jake Ferguson.

It left the Cowboys with a tough choice on 4th & 4 from the Detroit 37 yard line. Rather than go for the first down to extend the drive, coach Brian Schottenheimer chose to take the easy points instead.

Prescott was furious, seen blowing up at his sideline in a rage to go for the kick rather than try and keep their momentum going.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey was able to easily knock the kick through, but Schottenheimer's choice left the Lions with plenty of time to extend their lead.

That was such an awful decision, as was kicking the FG from the Lions 11 late. I'm glad Dak gets it. I wish Schotty did.

Logic was sound if you are playing good defense and not allowing an average start of the 40 yard line plus. We needed points that game. He messed this decision up and the one at the end of the game!

Yep keeping them off the field and the chance to get 7 outweighed the negative of not converting the 4th down!

This
3 points was the right decision since we were going to get the ball to start the second half
ST and defense should be blamed for points before half for Detroit
And then Dak throws a pick the very first place of the second half, staring down Pickens.. just checking in if Schottenheimer yelled at him on the sidelines?

I think it's critical to recognize how a slow anemic offense hurts an already bad defense. 5 FGs is ridiculous. 2 or 3 of those have to be TDs. None in the 1st half? That absolutely stresses out the defense and no wonder we're in a hole.

YEs...bad defense...of coursde. But offense choked too....30 points or no.

You know im no Dak apologist but that pick was on Pickens IMO
It looked that way at first blush but pull up the replays again. The defender behind Pickens read it all the way and got his hand in there to break it up. The other defender who also read it all the way closed in and snagged the ball.

The Lions made it a point to take those slants away. Pass should never have been thrown.

The other int was very similar although in that case Pickens could have fought a lot harder to at least not allow the int. Both passes were risky and ill advised.

At some point the defense has to be able to stop someone. If you go for it and miss it does that keep them from extending their lead?

It was the right decision.

The reason we lost was because our defense was terrible. The decision that cost us the game was not changing our approach against their offense.

Really the decision to hire Eberflus cost us this game.
Your terrible defense is why you need points and to control the ball.
