He's been pretty damn good outside of 2 games (AZ and SF).

1. Josh Allen
2. Purdy
3. Mahomes
4. Dak
5. Herbert
6. Tua
7. Hurts
8. Minshew
9. Goff
10. Cousins
.........
31. Zach Wilson (former #2 overall pick)
32. Bryce Young (#1 overall pick)

LOL WHY DON'T WE TOSS DAK ASIDE AND JUST DRAFT A QB?!?

I think for some they'll never get over disliking Dak because he replaced Romo. For others, and I will loosely throw my name in here so I'm not flip flopping, but it's a lot more around not paying QBs record setting money unless they are truly elite. Nothing against the guy at all, hes a fine QB, especially in 2023, but I don't get how teams continue to pay massive amounts of cash to QBs. Even Mahomes who is the one guy I would have written a blank check to is starting to look human. Daniel jones has probably set the Giants back a couple years now. Kyler Murray looks like a terrible deal. Russell Wilson's deal (and trade) and crippled the Broncos. They're still a really good team but the Bills are looking more mediocre now that Josh Allens cap hits are starting to add up, and I think the Bengals may start to look more middle of the pack as Burrow's new deal starts to have some effects on Higgens and possibly even Chase? Most QBs are going to struggle without the appropriate weapons around them, and most QBs in this league can thrive in a loaded offense.
The contract is what it is. Dak at 40 million is actually a bargain now. I for one am not sure I want to pay Dak 50 million, Parsons 35 million and CeeDee 30 million but that is the cost of players with their talents. Maybe if the Cowboys don’t get to the Super Bowl Jerry might play hard ball but I doubt it.

Beat an aging team with a 45 year old QB that should have stayed retired. Post us when he beats someone like Philly, KC, Bengals, Jags, etc, etc.

Try again please.
Shamelessly moves the goalposts... after I ridicule him by sarcastically telling him to move the goalposts.

Dak haters: unintentionally hilarious people.

There are two flaws I see in this.

One is market value. I own my own home. What I paid for it 18 years ago and what I can get for it today is shocking. It has almost quadrupled in value. Market value and what people will pay is why these guys get the bid bucks. I'm certain you understand that.

The second part is this. When people argue about the money these guys make, there is an ancillary part of this which is, "If they didn't give Dak so much money, the team could go out and get some better players."

This franchise does not shop at Tiffany's, if they shop at all. They shop at the Dollar Store, and try to haggle at that. There will be no boon of stud players come to Dallas because they pay their QB 2 million a yard.

But you might see a now wing built onto the yacht Jerry owns.

The money doesn't matter because the league has gone this way with the approval of the owners.
All fair points. The market value piece i get, but my argument is it's a bad time to buy simply because more often than not the return isn't there. Plus you aren't buying these guys you're basically leasing them, which doesn't give you the ability to ever reap the benefits. Of the division leaders right now you have quite the mixed bag. You have some high dollar players on big contract, some players their last team didnt want (Goff, Carr), and some guys still on rookie deals (Lawrence, Purdy, Tua).

The better argument IMO is can the Cowboys be trusted to spend the money any better. If losing Dak would have netted the returns of Randy Gregory and Connor McGovern then yeah it's not a great move at all, and this team is closer to a rebuild than a super bowl. If it's a matter of it could have netted them a return of say Amari Cooper plus adding a Bobby Wagner and a so so QB that becomes a more interesting conversation.

The problem is I'm not sure that $40M is really a bargain because its really $26m this year and $60m next year. Now that is more on the Cowboys usage of the cap more than it is Dak, but the whole Dak contract has been completely mismanaged by Jerry/Stephen.

I'm with you on the second part of this. To me it isnt really a Dak issue, but what makes the most sense to construct your roster issue. Does paying Dak $50M make sense? And to me $50M is probably the floor as we probably see contracts closer to $60m this offseason. If he can continue to play like he did this past Sunday then yeah he probably is. Let's see how it all plays out though.

It's crazy the fervor to want to replace Dak at this point when he is clearly one of the best QBs in the league. His play has spoken for itself as we have seen him carry this team many times while using both his arm and legs when needed. My only concern is how much he will cost to keep. Truly hoping he will give the Cowboys a little discount, but it's crazy to want to replace one of the top QBs in the league at this point. Dak is not the problem at all for what ails this team.
I can remember 2 times Dak "carried" the team, and they were both losses.

That said, now that he's using his legs more, I wanna see how good he can be.

That isn't why I replied to you...you said this: ...I replied that isn't really true. CJ looks pretty strong.
so far the past two years haven't netted any Mahomes or Burrows.

12th in QBR, 4-4 record.

So Dak must be doing GREAT!
Ooh..some cherry picking stats!

A rookie...12th in Qb rating? Pretty good. Do we wanna look at any other stats..since you want to compare.

ESPN has CJ 77.2 and Dak 72.5

CJ just come off 470 yards and 5 TDs. and 75 yard game winning drive.

Shall I continue?

So this method of evaluating QBs has Purdy as better than Mahomes?

And Gardner. MINshew as the 8th best QB?

I think I'd just as soon let a 4 year old tell me who the best QBs are.
Crazy your guy Hurts is top 10 with how poorly he has played this year, I would think more like 20th. I guess it’s the rushing stats

"ESPN has CJ 77.2 and Dak 72.5"

Which metric is this?

ESPN does Total QBR, which is the basis for this thread.

Psst, thanks for confirming it's not all about wins and losses for you, since you're hyping a 4-4 QB.

Now keep that same energy for Dak, who has a 5-3 record and has been more efficient than Stroud.

OOOPS!!!

cowboys have been nowhere near drafting in the spots necessary to get that kind of QB. I am happy for the texans usually OSU QBs dont translate to the pros I think this kid will. Maybe they could have taken a stab at Will Levis. They are going to draft in the 20s again this year.

Not to worry, the Cowboys will crush the juggernaut Giants this weekend, Dak will throw for 350 yards and 4 TDs and all will be well.

;)
I doubt it. Giants secondary isn’t as crappy as the Eagles. But I think Dak will have a good game and we win by double digits.

Again....star....that wasnt really my point. He said theres been no good qbs the last two years. Not true....cj killing it.

As far as drafting....even when we did have a spot we havent drafted high since...88-9?

Hmmmmm...intetesting.

Never confuse "having a better season" with "being better." Up to this point Purdy has had a better season than Mahomes. It's not inconsistent to say that. There are 9 games left for it all to shake out. What I don't understand is how Allen is still at the top of this rating. All them damn turnovers have doomed his team on more than one occasion. What else is he doing to offset those?
