Was Troy Aikman the best QB in the league in the 1990s? Where do you think he ranked? Was he better than Elway? Marino? Steve Young? He was in the top 5-10 for sure. The Cowboys won 3 Super Bowls. Was it because of Aikman? He definitely contributed because he was a high strung guy who hated to lose and he pushed his teammates to play better.
The Cowboys won then with a superior offensive line, a superstar RB, a defense that played with heart, and they had a confidence you don't see in Dallas today.
Dak is not Troy Aikman, but there is no Emmitt Smith either. Or an Erik Williams, Larry Allen, Mark Stepnoski, Mark Tuinei, or Nate Newton. No one on defense of note besides Micah Parsons. We like to think our guys are good, but in reality, they aren't as good as we expect them to be. That goes for Diggs, DLaw, and anyone else on the defense.
Dak is part of a team. He is not great but no one man is going to win anything. Dan Marino would probably be considered the best pure QB to ever play the game if he had won 1 Super Bowl. But with all his talent, he never did. Over 17 seasons he played in 1 Super Bowls which was a blow-out loss to the 49ers.
Blaming Dak for losses like yesterday is silly. This team is just not very good and Jerry knew it wouldn't be. But the Cowboys know how to sell snow to Eskimo's and they certainly know how to sell their hype to their fans.
Did Dak deserve $60 million. No, of course not. Dak is not that much better than Stafford, or Goff. Giving him $60 million was stupid. But his contract does not make him a better or worse QB. It makes Jerry a worse GM.
