Depending on when we draft a back, I'm not against it. We have no idea how a later-round back will turn out. We certainly have no idea how cheap signee Ronald Jones will play. And we even have no idea how Pollard will play coming off injury.
I'll say what I've said before, Elliott and Pollard were a strong tandem until near the end of the season when a) both got hurt and b) Elliott was asked to carry a heavier load because Pollard's injury (then the San Fran injury) sidelined him. Through the Texans game (Dec. 11), Elliott had 172 carries for 706 yards (4.01 per carry). Not great numbers, but good numbers for a No. 2 back. He also scored a TD in nine straight games.
Obviously, the question is whether when he hit the wall late in the season, it meant it's all downhill from here. For a vet minimum deal, I wouldn't mind at least letting him compete with Jones, a rookie and Davis to be the backup. The only sticking point I see with that is the team not being willing to cut him if the others are clearly better.
