The next time the cowboys are in a position to take a premium QB. I am fine with them doing so.

Its just so damn hard to find one of the elite ones.

I even look at the last draft that had some top prospects fall to the cowboys. Fields and Mac Jones. Is anyone taking either over Dak right now? I mean they are still young and developing but the results thus far aren’t very impressive.

Certainly, I'd keep Dak over Mac Jones any day. Same goes for Fields, though, I will concede that Fields is in an unfortunate situation where Matt Nagy, who's on the level of Jason Garrett for HC skill, was his rookie coach. That said, he was also very raw coming out of college. In fact, he was so raw, Jerry would need to hire Gordon Ramsay to help get him ready if he were to have taken him. Plus, you don't take a raw talent when you have Micah Parsons available. Especially when your defence the year before was the worst ever. So, I think the right decision was made for the TEAM.

The Cowboys made it to the Super Bowl with Craig Morton and lost. The next season they made the switch to Staubach and won Super Bowl six.

The notion that Dak is too good to dump isn't supported by the Cowboys' own history.

Morton also went to the Super Bowl again with Denver. I didn't like him, but Landry did.

The questions, as it relates to Dak, are the following. 1. What will the team need after the season. 2. If you are targeting a QB, what are you wanting in a QB, and, what are you willing to forgoe in a QB as very few if any have everything you'd want in a QB (aside from Mahomes). 3. What does the QB class look like? 4. What round would you pick your desired QB? If answer 1 is that a QB is a need after this season, then question 2 comes into play. What are you wanting in QB, and, what traits are things that either the QB may not have are you willing to give up or that you think your coaches can coach. For example, you may want a big arm, but, is the QB going to be an intelligent individual and a good leader? One of the biggest positives that Dak has is his leadership ability, and that is a trait that is hard to find in a QB. Look at a player like Kyler Murray. He has incredible skill. The problem is that his leadership skills and maturity seem to be noticeably lacking. 3. What does the QB class look like. More specifically, where will the team end up and what does the QB class look like? To me, outside of maybe Caleb Williams from USC (and USC tends to produce busts at QB), none of the QBs really push the needle for me. 4. If you've answered all of these questions, who is the QB you want, and what round/trade move are you willing to make to get him?

I break it down this way to say that replacing Dak isn't as easy as you think. Roger had been on the team that season for a few years, as had Morton. In this day in age, it's rare for a QB to be given time to sit if they're seen as the new franchise QB. Frankly, aside from maybe Caleb Williams, I don't think the class in college looks good at all. I think the next highest rated appears to be Spencer Rattler, and he seems to have a bit of a Josh Rosen trait to him. A big arm, but seems to come off an idiot. We don't need an idiot at QB. Dak may not be elite, but his leadership skills and intelligence cannot be questioned. Even most of the more ardent detractors in the media can't argue against his leadership or intelligence.

This is all to say, while I'd like an elite QB, the Cowboys are probably not going to be in a position, unless Dak AND Micah Parsons go down for the season early, to pick any viable replacement at QB this year. Frankly, this team had too much talent on defence, and should have better weapons this season. So, part of the fun this season will be to see how the team fares with a new weapon at WR, and what should be an even better defence, especially against the run with Mazi Smith.

Frankly, I think Dak, while not elite, will do very well this season. I like the team that's been developed, and I don't expect Dak to have nearly the same interceptions as last year, which I think was an anomaly. He's normally better at taking care of the ball. Therefore, I do not think we will be in a position to take a QB high, nor do I think Dak will be the reason we don't get to the SB if we miss. I think, as long as he plays like I think he can, then the only questions to me will be the health of the team and the running game.

Mahomes and Joe B.
Patrick Mahomes was drafted in 2017 and Joe Burrow was picked in 2020. 80 quarterbacks have been drafted from 2017 to present.

There was a 2.5% chance of landing an elite quarterback via the draft under those circumstances using those criteria. If the draft was narrowed to only the first round, the percentage would rise to just over 8% from that same timeframe.

Draft wise? It is kinda hard to draft an elite quarterback.

Dez caught it.
The rule at the time of the catch:

1. Control
2. Two feet down inbouds
3. Time to make a football move
(He made 3)
1. Bringing the ball to his shoulder.
2. Switching the ball to one hand
2. Lunging

It sure is. Then we have the challenged posters that are obsessed with Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys don't need a qb.
