What!? Your acting like the dude is runn8ng like Lamar or Kyler etc. Will it end bad for all these QBs that do it like Hurts and Allen and Mahomes when they need to or just Dak!?
Dak's touchdown vs the Chargers was a called run play.
That's great, and it worked great, but it will eventually lead to injuries.

Running quarterbacks are again a fad in the NFL.
But just like before, and just like the Ravens found out and the Eagles, and the Falcons with Vick, the NFL shied away from running quarterbacks because they eventually get hurt, and leave their team without a starter.
Dak was a running quarterback in college and his passing was bad. This is nothing new.
Dak’s passing wasn’t bad in college where do y’all get this crap from lol?

He’s also nothing like Lamar and Vick.

What some of us have been vying for more movement, more throwing on the run…like Russ in his prime:m. Russ was never a mobile quarterback but he kept the defense honest by running and not taking contact. Nobody wants Lamar it Hurts. We want someone to keep the defense honest and you have to. The days are over of just dropping back and dissecting a defense. These defenses are too good.

Prescott has to use his legs for this offense to be successful. Whether it is extending plays, rollouts, RPO, designed runs, or scrambles. He needs to protect himself by sliding and getting out of bounds when needed.

Not saying he should be run first. But, I am saying he needs to use everything in his tool belt. West Coast offense QB's all can move and use their legs (go back as far as needed...it's true).

Romo broke his shoulder twice getting whacked in the pocket. Most of Romo's big injuries that eventually ended his career was from the pocket.

Have you ever seen any of Dak's game film from college?
He was basically a running back, and when they played better teams that stopped the run, he was inaccurate at passing.

The key to Dak's effectiveness is to add mobility to stress defences to break down. He doesn't have to be the leading runner in a game.

He just has to move around enough to make defences honest and break out of theri assignments as they try to defend hos movement. This way he creates space for plays.

Rodgers is not a fleet runner, but his mobility is a killer and we at Dallas knows exactly how frustrating it is to defend Aaron as he scrambles, and he breaks down our defence to get his guys open.

I present you this play as an example of what a scramble can do to break down a defence. Not a Cowboys play, but a good example with a QB point of view on what it looks like when a scramble results in a defensive breakdown. Watch Wentz and Sproles work the scramble drill and Sproles find space as the defence focuses on Carson from the 36 second mark.

Just because he's mobile doesn't mean he's a running qb, are you a true Cowboy fan or do you just not watch football!?. Serious question because this offense is NOT going to open up and be what it can be if there is not a least a THREAT of Dak using his legs. 80% of the QBs in the league uses their legs when needed ....gut. I bet he'll get hurt more getting hit in the pocket than running

That does prove the point of mobility and how it can be a back breaker, but "steelers/eagles" to prove your point:facepalm:

Come on man:laugh:

Yes and No. I think everyone wants to make it black & white. Either mobile or not mobile. But both styles can work.

T-Lawrence, Tua, Goff, there are some QBs doing very well this year who I wouldn't call "mobile." Burrow is mobile, but not like an Allen.

Here's the key word -- pocket awareness and reading the defense. If you run because you see the defense, no problem. If you run because you can't read the defense, problem.

Or worst of all, you run because you get jittery in the pocket or even if because your Oline stinks, huge problem!

And regarding OP's original point about injuries. Yep, no matter why you do it, the more you do it, the more you risk ending your career early. Some big runners take it all the way to 40, but those are very few.
Superb post. Right on point.
