But Ray is on the decline and has said that he didnt like the 3-4 defence plus you cant forget the TO-Lewis beef. And I wonder if Reed has some carachter issues or something because he is one of the best plays in football and if his team is trying to trade him than I have to wonder why

I don't care

Ed Reed > Roy Willaims and Greg Ellis

Getting Lewis is just gravy

Ed Reed is the best defensive back on the planet, and no DB has made that many big plays or been that dominant since mid-90s Deion

The grass is always greener, it seems.

I wouldn't do that trade at all.

Only becuase you, like way to many people here, are attached to Roy Williams at the scrotum

He is my handle and I would do that in a heartbeat. Open your eyes.

no way he makes it out of the top 5. he's the best lb prospect since brian urlacher

imo he's an even better prospect since it's established that he can play the lb position exactly like he's supposed to.

I don't know if there is anything to this rumor about Reed, but here is a piece of info that people may not be aware of.

The President of the Baltimore Ravens, Dick Cass, used to be JJ's lawyer (I know since I worked on the Cowboys lawsuit against the NFL with Mr. Cass). He is so tight with Mr. Jones that Jones repeatedly used to call him "my lawyer." I am sure that Dick and JJ talk all the time, and I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to work out a blockbuster that helped both teams.

Don't know if that makes this specific rumor more or less likely, but I think a deal of some kind will happen between the Boys and Ravens because of that relationship one day (unless Dick becomes NFL commissioner first).

Strong.

I wouldnt mind giving ellis and a second rounder. hell i might even give a 1st if there are no good 1st round DE prospects. I love Ed reed but Roy is my favorite on this team. I would NEVER want him to get traded

Reed had what 1 pick in 10 games last year? Didn't put up those great numbers now that he's not part of a top 5 D anymore. Without his D putting major pressure on qb's, he looked very average last year. Talent drop off and scheme changing to a 46 will continue to hurt him.

Same thing RW has been going through having to playFS/SS ever since Woody left us. Except he has never missed more than a game and has consistently played at a Pro Bowl level every year he has been in the league.

Futhermore Reed's young but Roy is two years younger at 25 compared to Reed's 27. If Roy had played on some of those attacking D's ( think Zimmer here ) not to mention had the talent around him Reed had previously... I'll leave it at that. I would not trade Roy for Reed straight up. Roy is our heart and soul on D.

seems like we would have wayyyy too much money tied up in the secondary if we sign him

Good point... I don't see it happening anyway... Helluva pipe dream however.

Only thing I would do, if the Cowboys are trying to trade for Ed Reed only. I would trade maybe our 3rd this year, and maybe a # 3 or #2 on playing time, etc next year.
That way, we can trade down our 2nd round pick, hopefully just 5-8 picks and pick up a 3rd rounder.

I wouldnt get too cute, say your time comes up to draft, and you have on your board, just 4-5 players you would draft in 2nd round available. Then dont trade down past that.

If we can get Ed Reed, for say a 3rd rounder, and a future pick next year, and still have our top 2 picks in 1st and 2nd round, go for it.

That way, we are getting our future free safety for 6 years or so, have 2 top picks in 1st and 2nd round. We should still be able to get a good OLB like Carpenter or Manny Lawson in 1st round. Then, get a good OT or OG in 2nd round.

Sometimes it's not about just who is "better." RW is currently the general on the field when we're on defense. You don't just trade a guy like that on a whim. It could ruin the entire chemistry of the defense. Not saying that Reed couldn't become the leader, but why not let all the young guys on our D keep some continuity?

Plus RW's was a Cowboy fan before he played here. There's a risk in taking on Ed Reed, what if we can't get him extended? RW will want to stay here if we just let him. I say we get a FS somewhere else, unless they do it without RW, which is not gonna happen.

Would you trade Terrance Newman for CB Sheldon Brown of the Eagles?
Probably not... If Reed was that much better than RW, why would they trade Reed for RW. Why do you trade the best for someone who's not the best?

Makes no sense to me....

Reed wants a new deal and wants to get paid like the BEST saftey in league and former DPOY.. He's also good buddies with Ray who spoke out against the Ravens organzation. SO they try to avoid doing two contract extensions with two guys from the "U" who I am sure are represented by Rosenhaus..

In return they get one contract to redo (Roys) and a reasonable contract in Ellis who is still very productive 4-3 end and pass rusher..

Roy is my favorite player on the team but he cant cover like Ed Reed. Reed can play either safety postion and is ball hawk either in the box or deep in cover 2.. Roy is one dimensional in that aspect (or 15 pounds overweight).

Makes sense to me..

Reed isnt the player vs the run or the blitzer RW is either...he also isnt the kind of intimidating hitter Roy is...I guess I could turn around and call Reed a one dimensional player then too couldnt I?

They are two different players...I like RW's game and I like Reed's game...IMO Roy would be better with a better defensive coordinator, but I still believe that RW is just as good, if not better than Reed is...Roy will never have a 10 pick season, but its likely Reed will never come close to that again either...I think on an every down basis, RW is the more complete player

Still doesn't make sense. Both will require alot of money, but Reed is clearly better, so why down-grade from the Ravens perspective? Doesn't make sense to me..

RW and Reed have different strongpoints/positives in their games.

RW and Reed are COMPLEMENTARY to each other, IMO.

Reed can't do what RW does as well as RW can, and visa-versa.

IMO, we keep RW. If we can make a deal with Davis/Ellis/ and a next years 2nd or something like that, I'd be down for it. But I would not part ways with a home grown talent, that's not even had the opportunity to play with a good FS since his rookie year, and how did he do then?
