Coop wasn't and isn't a top 5 WR. Dallas overpaid him and then didn't get commensurate production.

That said, Dallas is clearly worse for him not being here and some of his issues were QB and OC related.

Its kind of sad. I suspect that if the team would have kept Cooper and used Pollard as the feature back, with how good the defense is the team might have had a shot at making noise. In both cases, Jerry's ego and issue with overpaying people (Zeke and Coop) is getting in the way of that happening. At the end of the day, this really isn't a Cooper thread as much as it is the millionth Jerry thread.

as much as i hated the trade cooper should still be a cowboy this year but he is not so i have moved on. the main problem i still have is i do agree that the jones messed up and should have at least got third round pick for a number one receiver as cooper still is.

Trading Cooper was a huge mistake. It was clear he took a ton of pressure off of the other guys. Can't change things around now, so it is what it is.

Dallas actually tried negotiating the contract of Cooper down. Cooper refused and Dallas was in desperation mode last minute. They telegraphed they were getting rid of Cooper from the get to. He knew somebody was willing to pay 20 million for him. They were still trying to negotiate with him until they traded him last minute.

8 TEAMS were interested at some level. Claiming he wasn’t is a joke.

Teams were in part trying to gauge not only Cooper's trade cost, but also what they would do regarding his contract going forward - an issue not unlike what the Cowboys themselves were doing as a decision must soon be made on the receiver leading up to free agency.

And eight teams, we're told, were interested at some level.

Before the trade, Cooper was due his entire $20 million salary for 2022 guaranteed if he was on the roster on March 21. In the meantime, Dallas must also be cap-compliant by March 16.

Dallas was just trying to off-load a 22 million guaranteed salary the last minute.

The logic is they are going to make up for it next year, with a younger player who'll pay off in the long run.

That, and the logic is to keep this team together for as long as possible, at least some of the core leaders, like Parsons, Diggs, Tyler Smith, etc.

I kind of like the idea of leaving cap space open, which carries over to next year, if I'm not mistaken, so that it gives the younger players currently on the team incentive to play harder and then you sign your guys you need to win and then reload with new guys the next year.

This makes no sense, this how the Joneses think, just keep everything together, sign your own and remain competitive. Winning a super bowl will take signing significant free agents, which this front office doesn’t believe in. They haven’t sign a top tier free agent in 12 Year (Carr).

Don’t focus on the 5th rounder it was a cap move. We would have cut him if we didn’t get a pick back for him. Shame on us for showing our hand and not getting more, but he was going to be cut and for whatever reason we weren’t going to wait and see if a better offer materialized later on which it may. Argue in a few years when we have used that $20M elsewhere if you think it wasn’t worth it.

I don’t think Amari was traded based on strictly his ability to produce. One can still argue if trading him was the right call, but it’s pretty evident there was more to it than that.
