Once Jarwin went down he went away from 12 personnel. I dont know if it was about talent on the field or him not having faith in his TE2.
McKeon was getting decent snaps for a 2nd TE after Jarwin was out, but then he had a neck injury, missed a game and his snaps were minimal afterwards.

McKeon in 2021

Game.......Snap%
8 …......... 19%
9 …......... 47%
10 …......... 13%
11 …......... 16%
12 …......... 27%
13 ….........Inactive with neck injury.
14 …......... 8%
15 …......... 23%
16 …......... 8%
17 …......... 5%

Isnt it kinda stupid to plan on using 12 this season, before TC and PS games?
Best laid plans and all that lol.
I would rather they develop all new offense lol, cause they kinda sucked against good teams last year.
I think because they lack innovation, and just keep doing same things over and over which makes it easy for teams to defend them.

With Mike McCarthy back for his third year and Kellen Moore back for his fourth (as OC), many believe things will stay status quo on offense for the Dallas Cowboys. But there’s reason to believe that will not be the case in 2022, and that the Cowboys offense is going to evolve into something a little different.

Keep in mind, with Amari Cooper playing in Cleveland these days, the Cowboys lost a fundamental part of their passing attack this year. The addition of Jalen Tolbert and James Washington should help, but no one believes them to completely fill the void left by Amari’s departure.

Further complicating matters is Michael Gallup’s injury situation. Gallup is fresh off an ACL injury and is not expected back in time to play in Week 1. That means two of the Dallas Cowboys top-three WRs from 2021 will be absent when the new season kicks off. That’s going to an effect on what Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore does.

You want to bring more defenders in the box with 12 personnel? That would not be wise and does not fit this team. Back in 2016-17 it worked because Swaim/Hanna and Jason Witten could block.

Music to my ears. I think Moore is better suited to playcalling with 12 personnel vs 11... but I'll believe the change when I see it for longer than 4 or 5 games.

Right, but all I said was use the facts. The facts say that he’s not a check down QB. I posted last year’s stats and he’s been better than that throughout his career (at YPA and air yards or whatever they call it)
The check down label just isn’t accurate.

And I’m sorry. You weren’t being hotshot. I got too excited.
Down, boy! Down! ;)

Didn’t we run a lot of 13 personnel last season until the vikings game. After Jarwin was injured and Elliot we changed and never really went back. That was the end of the win streak I think. I remember someone talking about it last season. Something about not having a TE that’s was trusted to play the formation.

Mike doesn't use 3 TE's all that much. You may think Kellen Moore runs the offense, but everytime I catch a Cowboys game I see McCarthy's handprints all over that offense.

I'm not sure you wanna see Schultz, McKeon, and Ferguson all on the field together.

Love Jake, but he is far from a polished and great TE. I'd keep him off the grass this year.

You mean Blake. He is retired. His injury was career ending. But i can tell the way we run the ball that it’s not the same.

Huh? Not sure what you are talking about...

But I was talking about Jake Ferguson. The TE from Wisconsin that the Cowboys drafted in the 4th round.

Frankly, I'd say Jarwin as the second tight end when he was healthy was a toss-up with Wilson as the third receiver. No clear advantage personnelwise.

If we're going to use 12 this year, then are we relying on Sprinkle as the second TE, or McKeon, or the fourth-round rookie. That seems iffy to me, especially if it means keeping Pollard off the field.
It would be truly amazing to see increase in 12 personnel, if so than Dalton is gone for sure next season.

Playing Jarwin and Shultz together in a 12 personnel is ridiculous. Both guys are poor blockers so it hurts you both ways. You need TE's that can block for that set to be effective. Then you need at least one of those guys to be a quality pass catcher if not both.

Maybe try to explain that one to me? You need 2 good TE's to do a lot of successful 12 personnel.

My point being that if we think we are even capable of running 12 P, than we must be really deep at TE.
A bit of sarcasm Roy.

Ok. Gotcha. Haven’t kept up since draft. Waiting to see training camp to see who shines and who goes home.. lol.

Hard to run 12, Parcells wanted to but never was able to put the two together at the same time.

Garrett and Jerry were infatuated trying to copy the 2 TE offense like Belli was doing with Brady. Problem was Garrett kept drafting finesse TE's instead of guys that could block well and then he would barely use the new TE.

How many TE's barely got PT when Witten was here.

Marctellus Bennett, Anthony Fasano, another 2nd round I am forgetting. And Fasano and Bennett left here and had good careers.
