Maybe try to explain that one to me? You need 2 good TE's to do a lot of successful 12 personnel.
Tell me the last time we had 2 TEs on this roster at the same time that could do it . the way 12 P should be run.

Garrett and Jerry were infatuated trying to copy the 2 TE offense like Belli was doing with Brady. Problem was Garrett kept drafting finesse TE's instead of guys that could block well and then he would barely use the new TE.

How many TE's barely got PT when Witten was here.

Marctellus Bennett, Anthony Fasano, another 2nd round I am forgetting. And Fasano and Bennett left here and had good careers.
That was indeed hard to understand, there was a chance to exploit at the 12 but it never manifested.

It would be truly amazing to see increase in 12 personnel, if so than Dalton is gone for sure next season.

Not sure why it would mean Dalton is gone for sure. If we rely more on the 12, then we need two tight ends to run it. So even if Ferguson does well, we'd still need another "starting" tight end.

My point being that if we think we are even capable of running 12 P, than we must be really deep at TE.
A bit of sarcasm Roy.

Sorry. I didn't catch the sarcasm either. I do think if we run a lot of 12, we either feel very good about a couple of our tight ends or very bad about our third-receiver options.

Thats when I really wanted and envisioned the 12 actually working, it never transpired.

I think it goes back even further than that to Anthony Fasano. I think Parcells liked the idea of running a two-tight end offense, so he took Fasano in the second round even though it was just three years after Witten was drafted. That was even before the Patriots made it popular with Gronkowski and Hernandez.

Playing Jarwin and Shultz together in a 12 personnel is ridiculous. Both guys are poor blockers so it hurts you both ways. You need TE's that can block for that set to be effective. Then you need at least one of those guys to be a quality pass catcher if not both.

It's not a hypothetical. That is what we did, and did well.

NO, the finesse TE's were a disaster with the run game and suspect in the pass blocking. Jarwin was a complete disaster. Throw Shultz in with an all around TE that can bloc and catch and maybe you have something.

Look I'm not arguing against your logic. It makes total sense. I'm just telling you it was our best formation last year, and the run game was doing well at that time. We went away from it when Jarwin was injured. Then, the run game and offense in general went to crap. Obviously there was a multitude of factors contributing.

The Cowboys now rank first in success rate in 12 personnel and fourth in the same category in 11 personnel. Being able to live in two offensive worlds is key for success in the modern game.Oct 19, 2021

No, you are correct. It was doing well last year with both guys.

It didn't make sense to me either. I would've thought an offense with CD, Coop, Gallup all on the field would be lethal.

We were running the football all over everybody for a while there. Then the line went in the toilet. Finesse Jarwin got hurt also.
