...The one player the Cowboys have elected to continue swapping around on a whim is defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford. The 27-year old has taken the brunt of fan anger after signing a six-year, $45.6 contract in September of 2015 and seemingly underperforming ever since.

Admittedly, injuries have played their part in Crawford’s ineffectiveness. He has posted a total of 63 tackles and 9.5 sacks in his last two seasons. But the former third round selection out of Boise State in 2012 is being paid as a Top 20 defensive lineman in the NFL according to OverTheCap.com.

Crawford’s relative ineffectiveness can in part be blamed on the Cowboys coaching staff, as they continue to shuffle the young defender inside and out, along the defensive line. It’s a fact Crawford has now resigned himself to...

Not necessarily. I do think it is ridiculous how they keep swapping him from DT to DE and back at a whim. Let the man get a position and stay there

I don't get what they saw in him to justify that contract. I usually know almost the whole roster and I never heard of him until they signed him. Guessing they thought he was going to blow up and wanted to get a good deal.

I do believe it's not helping him to keep moving him around though.

I disagree that playing different positions hinders him, players do it all the time especially on the Dline. Although last year he played DE mainly out of necessity with DLaw starting the season suspended and playing hurt most of the season.

The problem I have had with the coaching staff's use of him is the way they have mismanaged his weight over the years. They leaned him down when he was just a DE, putting him at a disadvantage when he switched to DT. Then last offseason they had him gain weight, only for him to play mostly on the outside. Tyrone should hover somewhere between Michael Bennett's weight and Jack Crawford's weight, both guys who play both inside and out.

That's exactly how I feel.

The guy has been a round peg in a square hole since they drafted him. They drafted him to be a 3-4 DE, he tore his Achilles, and the team switched schemes. They've been trying to find a home for him on the line ever since. If he was dominant at any one spot, they'd keep him there. He isn't. He's a good player who unfortunately will never play up to his contract.

Bennett is a DE that plays a few snaps inside.

That's much different than completely changing positions.

he is an average player who got given a dumb contract because marinelli handpicked him to be the centerpiece of his DL and thought he saw superstar potential.

The dude is slightly above average when he's "healthy" which hasn't been more than a couple of games

Otherwise he is just a body that gets put into a position cause he knows the positions assignment
