News: Dallas Cowboys indecision hurting Tyrone Crawford’s effectiveness

Crawford is doing what he is told(injuries have not helped admittedly), very similar to a player we had named Greg Ellis, he filled in where the talent was sparse to the detriment of his playing in Pro Bowls. Once they put Ellis at DE, surprise he became an Probowler. Crawford has the seriously similar talent. When the FO cannot draft a DE that can stay on the field it weakens the whole DLine because Crawford has to crawl over and do his best in a position he is not truly suited to play. If healthy and playing 3 tech he is a handful and consistently capable of applying pressure up the middle. Crawford and Maliek Collins(if foot is fully healed) would be a nightmare for most Olines.

Could we see your list of the top ten 3Ts. Just so we know.

in no order

Donald
short
Atkins
suh
McCoy
Cox
all 3 nyjets guys although they play in a 3-4(Williams,ruchardson,Wilkerson)
Casey

off the top of my head....

They aren't 3Ts if they play a 3-4. And I guess you now see how difficult it is.

But they are still better than him in this scheme at that spot. He is average as I said. Nobody can tell me otherwise based on his play....

Edit
Would you say no to any of those 3 at his contract to play 3t?

Bennett is a DE that plays a few snaps inside.

That's much different than completely changing positions.

Jack is a Jag and meaningless to the discussion.
Im sorry, but you're wrong about Bennett. I'll post an article at the bottom from PFF from a year ago that states how Bennett actually played 61% of his snaps between the tackles. So he clearly is a good example to use, even though I don't think he and Crawford have the same playing style.

I guess he must have been on the party bus with Jerry. Witness.

His agent knew what he was doing, that's for sure. He was only too happy to "rework" the original contract, giving himself security for the big salary years, along with his 2017 salary quickly being totally guaranteed.

This is the cautionary tale for everyone who thinks reworking big money deals is a great idea.

And likely a big reason why the team didn't touch deals like Bryant's. If things go south, you want to have the out clause. With Crawford, they don't. So we're all just left hoping for the best.

posters act like he is the 2nd coming round here.
he is an average player who got given a dumb contract because marinelli handpicked him to be the centerpiece of his DL and thought he saw superstar potential.
he may end up being above average but a top 10 3t in this league he will never be.....
He was paid based on potential and not productivity. Rookie mistake by the front office.

Not necessarily. I do think it is ridiculous how they keep swapping him from DT to DE and back at a whim. Let the man get a position and stay there

Agreed. Then he can get his body ready. Gonna need more bulk as a DT.

It really seems like Crawford might be the Cowboys' version of a Swiss Army knife.

Maybe he should simply be congratulated for his attitude and willingness to adjust.

Let's face it, it's pretty hard to get one's body ready for one spot, then be switched.

Injuries are the problem. Crawford would do well at either position....
Well it depends on what you consider well, he does not have the burst or explosiveness to be a pass rushing DE, as a run defending DE he excels. He is better in the interior because he does not work well in space which is fine. They need to play him for what they signed him otherwise you cannot fully evaluate the contract. Yoyo-ing a guy around the DL means that most likely he will graded on a curve.

Our 90s line didn't need position "flex". Haley and Tolbert were ends...all the others were DTs. Corners were corners, safeties were safeties. Not all this rotating mix and match tweener stuff.
Exceptional guys can move around to a point. Crawford is not exceptional he is above average at best. Sometimes its better to be a good tackle than a jack of all trades and a master at none.

Sorry, but I believe it has certainly affected his play - the constant position and wieght change.
Leave him in place as the rotational 3-tech behind Collins.
Get his body and injuries right and just let him play.

Well as in good but not great. He's been serviceable while playing through injuries but I don't know if he'd ever be considered Top 5 if healthy. I get your point but this defense has holes so they've had to move players around...

I think the contract was ridiculous and the fact that he sucks is why they're Moving him around so much
