The Tony Romo saga has ended.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has opted to retire, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. He is retiring in order to pursue opportunities in football broadcasting, Rapoport reported on Good Morning Football on Monday. Romo has received offers to work for CBS and Fox.

Around The NFL will have more on this story shortly.

This changes nothing really. Dallas still holds his rights even with retirement. The TV thing gives him a guaranteed job in the event no team comes calling later.

Mods, can we change the thread title to make clear that he's retiring (if it isn't already clear)? Thanks!

For those asking about cap implications:

Dallas is expected to designate Romo a post-June 1 release, softening the blow against the Cowboys' cap this season. Instead of counting $24.7 million in 2017, Romo would count $10.7 million this year and $8.9 million in 2018. The Cowboys would gain $14 million in cap space, but it would not become available until June 2. But after today, Romo no longer will be a Cowboy.

Some reports are the Cowboys were getting ready to release him so he can retire and go into broadcasting ??? That makes no sense .. why release him ? Just have him retire and we obtain his rights , releasing him and we don't ..
I will believe it when Tony says it in a presser :. Could be another move to force another team to blink then trade

If he is retiring---why would we still release him?

Just eat the money and take the entire hit so we can hold his rights.

Doubt he leaves the booth to come back anyways but it would be nice to at least have an easy transition if something was so happen to Dak.
